OULTON, Mary (nee MacArthur)
1927 - 2012
Passed away peacefully on November 21, 2012. Dearly loved wife of Rhodes, mother of Christopher, Andrew and David (Laura) and grandmother of Richard, Shannon and Evan; dear friend of Line, Richard's mother. Mary's brother was the late Prof. Dan MacArthur. She was born in Arundel, Quebec, daughter of Helen and Samuel MacArthur and great- granddaughter of Wm. Thomson, first permanent settler of Arundel in 1857, Mary studied at MacDonald College and was a teacher for the P.S.B.G.M for many years. She was an excellent teacher, highly respected and loved by her students, many of whom, on hearing of her illness, contacted her in writing, by phone or by email. Rhodes was lucky to have met Mary at a bridge party. They were married for 61 years. She was a cherished friend to many and with her positive attitude always found the best in everyone. As well as her family, she loved her church, her books and her cats. At her death we say farewell to a great mind and a loving heart. She will be sadly missed. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Montreal Chest Hospital, particularly the dedicated team of Dr. R. Olivenstein and Cathy Richards who looked after Mary for so many years. Many thanks also to the wonderful staff at Palliative Care Division of Le Vivalis, Point Claire. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Le Vivalis Residence. The family will receive friends and family at the Lachine Branch of J.J. Cardinal Funeral Home 2125 Notre Dame St. (514-639-1511) on Friday, November 23 between 3 - 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A service will be held in Arundel at a later date.

Dear Rhodes,
Don and I are wintering in Avon Park, Florida where we met a man who lives near Arundel. I asked if he knew you and he told me the very sad news of Mary passing. I can feel her warmth, hear her laugh, so she left us the gift in parting. Please let us know when you are ready for a call. 514.273.7479 Daphne Boyer and Don Sugden

On behalf of the entire Peck family, in particular, my Aunt Helene Cooper (nee Peck), I would like to express deepest sympathies to the Oulton and MacArthur families. Our thoughts are especially with Rhodes at this difficult time. My late parents, Bob and Bunny Peck, were also teachers and I recall them speaking warmly about Mary. I remember well meeting her a few years ago at a reception in honour of her late brother, Dan MacArthur. We had a wonderful conversation which linked back to my folks and mutual acquaintances.
With our condolences,
