SHIPLEY, Gordon Charles
With grace, integrity, and dignity, Gord passed peacefully at West Island Palliative Care Residence on Wednesday, October 10th, 2012 at the age of 58. Beloved husband of Jeanne Marie (nee Lefebvre) for 32 years, caring father to Julie (Kurtis Strickland), Matthew (Kristina Hartling), Bryan, and proud Pops to Avrie. Gord was a loving son to Vivian (late William Shipley), brother to Jan Mingle and Sue Shipley, son-in-law of Denise and Gerry Lefebvre, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Gord was an excellent athlete growing up in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. He played varsity soccer, hockey and track and field in high school and was captain of the hockey team in each of his school years. He attended John Abbott College and played varsity hockey for two years at McDonald Abbott under Coach Bryan Murray, of current and long-time NHL fame. Upon graduation, he attended the University of New Brunswick and played three more years of intercollegiate hockey while obtaining his Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Economics.
Gord began his business career with London Life Insurance Company in 1976 and has been with them for the past thirty-six years. He started in sales and built his clientele before entering the management ranks in 1983. For the next fifteen years, he and his partner, David Thibaudeau, built one of the largest and most successful insurance agencies in the history of London Life. In 1998, he sold his management practice and returned to personal production by forming his own company, Shipley Insurance Services Ltd. The company has grown rapidly over the years and has specialized in pension, investment and corporate estate planning for entrepreneurs, professionals and executives. In 2008, his daughter and son entered the business and the company will continue for the next generation under their capable guidance.
Gord is a member of many industry organizations including a thirty-five year Qualifying and Life membership in the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), the largest insurance and financial services sales organization in the world. He has been a twenty year member of the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriters (CALU) and a long time member of Study Link Financial Group (SLFG), a prominent business group of successful entrepreneurs in the financial industry.
Gord was involved in his community, especially as a soccer and minor hockey coach. He coached eight years with the Lakeshore Soccer Association from 1987 to 1995. He coached fifteen years with the Lakeshore Minor Hockey Association from 1990 to 2005 and was involved at every level from Tykes to Junior AA. There are many young people in the Lakeshore community who benefited from the passion, enthusiasm and encouragement in his coaching philosophy.
Gord has been a member of St Edmund of Canterbury Parish since 1980 and past president of the Lakeshore Civitan Club. He is a member of the Plantation Golf and Country Club, in Venice, Fla and a long time member of The Royal Montreal Golf Club.

Finally, a huge thank you to all of our family and friends from across Canada and the USA, who from the beginning of Gord's diagnosis to his last breath stood beside our family.
