1935 - 2014
Born in Pointe-Saint-Charles, Quebec, Ron lived a rich and full life and died peacefully after a long illness, surrounded by family and friends at the West Island Palliative Care Residence in his 80th year. He will be sorely missed by his devoted wife of 57 years, Ida (Pepe); his son, Michael (Annie Laflamme) of Oakville, Ontario; his beloved grandsons, Tristan and Evan, who he absolutely adored; and his many relatives and friends. Ron approached life with integrity, humility and good humour. His quiet, yet no nonsense approach, endeared him to so many and allowed him to accomplish so much. In 1959, he realized his boyhood dream when he was hired as a police officer by the Town of Montreal West. Nearly 40 years later, he retired from the Town as its Town Manager. He was an institution in the Town. His volunteer work was extensive, particularly with young people. He was the recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Medal, Air Canada's Heart of Gold Award, Rotary's Paul Harris Fellowship and many other honours for his public service. He believed that life was about making good decisions and having role models to emulate. He was a role model to so many, and he will be sorely missed. Ron's family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at the West Island Palliative Care Residence. Visitation will take place at Yves Légaré Funeral Complex, located at 7200 boulevard Newman, Lasalle, Quebec on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Gabriel's Church, 2157 Centre Street, Montreal, Quebec on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the West Island Palliative Care Residence would be appreciated by the family.
