1930 - 2013
Secondina Piciacchia passed away on May 11, 2013 in her 83 year at St Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Fiorenzo, her children Domenic, Rita and Mary; daughter in law Mary, son in law Jim and grandchildren, Anthony, Alexander, Nicholas and Jack. She is also survived by siblings Quinto, Italia, and Anna, and predeceased by siblings Antonio, Salvatore, Costantino and Settemia. Secondina was born in the Italian town of Pescara Del Tronto, In the Province of Ascoli Piceno, in the Region of the Marches. Seeking a better life from postwar Italy she, Fiorenzo and Domenic joined other family members in Montreal and eventually settled in the west end. They became proud Canadian citizens in the early 1970's. Secondina was happiest cooking for her family, which she did so very well for so many decades. She and Fiorenzo continued many old world traditions such as vegetable gardening, and making tomato preserves as well as others. Like many of her generation, the oral tradition was kept alive with a repertoire of stories from the old country punctuated with lessons of survival and wisdom. The visitation will be at Collins Clarke on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Saint-Raymond de Pennaford at 1:00 p.m. followed by the entombment at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery.
