Christine ATALLAH Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette on Nov. 1, 2011.
ATALLAH, Christine Ann
1965 - 2011
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Tina on October 29, 2011. Tina graduated from Concordia University, first in journalism and later in music, which was her true passion. An accomplished singer-songwriter who worked on numerous musical projects, she also created The Bassalindos, which spread her angelic voice and enthusiasm across the world. Tina adored life, the people who surrounded her, and cared for her beloved pets. Always active and full of energy, she loved sky diving, sailing, and scuba diving. She is now reunited in heaven with her father, Michel, and leaves behind her loving mother, Norma Zakaib, her brother, Michael, her life companion Danny McLaughlin, and lots of family and friends here at home, in Lebanon, Greece, and throughout the world. Visitations will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Urgel Bourgie (1255 Beaumont Ave.), from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 3, at St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church (80 de Castelnau St. East), at 11 a.m., followed by the burial at Mount Royal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church or the SPCA.

So sorry just heard about it today. A beautiful flower cut off before its time. Christine had that something special that added to the life of everybody she encountered. Farewell Christine. Ilania

She was my friend, on so many levels nobody would ever know. She was also my twin ( we shared the same birthday) and we had so many weird connections. She was my sister, I miss her, I love her.

I saw her picture on face book and sent two messages. No answer. We know each other well from Malcom Campbell High School and I expected an answer. Then I read In Memorium and it slowly told me that she was not with us anymore. I found out today Feb 28/2012, and am deeply sadden..... DJ Francis ( T.O)

Christine and I were good friends during our study at Concordia University, performed many times together, and shared many thoughts about music and life. I have so many things to thank her for. One of the most remarkable example I want to share, is that once after I complained about my dire financial situation as a foreign student, she actually went as far as WRITING A LETTER TO THE BULGARIAN EMBASSY without my knowledge, demanding that they help one of their compatriots!!!This was one of the most moving gestures of friendship, I have ever had! Rest in Peace, Christine

I was one of your students. We did not know each other for long but the minute I walked into your home, I knew you were as genuine and kind as they got. We met in July and after a couple of sessions you noticed there was something wrong with me, you sensed it. I had just been broken up with and you shared stories of your past to make me feel better. You told me to "love me" first, because that was the most important thing I could do for myself. I took your advice and kept coming back to you, because singing would be the excitement of my week. You told me how beautiful my voice was and that I had a natural gift you wanted to help me develop. The last time I saw you was 3 days before your death. I told you I hadn't returned that black shawl you had lent me the week before, insisting I take it because I'd be cold. You joked and said you knew I'd forget to bring it back but that you didn't mind, you had just wanted me to stay warm. I contacted you for weeks after and didn't hear back from you. I found the news out last night while I was googling your name because something inside me kept telling me something wasn't right. I was in shock when I found out what I did. I still have your jacket. I still remember the sound of your voice. I will never forget that smile of yours when I hit the right note, or how you used to kiss K-Lyn's tummy and feed her during our lessons so she wouldn't sing with us. I didn't know you for long, but I'm glad I had the chance to meet someone like you because you were a rarity - an angel on Earth and now one in Heaven.

'Till we meet again,

Your little song bird,

Gina

Tina - my dear Tina - I remember when we both put a needle in our index fingers to draw blood so that we could become blood sisters. I was seven and you six :-) I remember reading Judy Blume novels out loud to one another and giggling - I was nine and you were eight. I remember how your gerbil died and we had a funeral for him and buried him in your backyard. We used to place fresh wild flowers that we had picked for many years to follow each spring and summer. I remember visiting your grandmother sitto and playing pool in the basement with uncle loui and of course making popsicle stick creations :-)

I can go on and on. I am beyond sad. I have not been able to breath properly since I heard the news of your passing. May your soul rest in peace. Wherever you are I hope and pray that you will find comfort and peace.

Christine was a frequent artist/performer at the Centre St-Ambroise; I had booked her to perform there several times and I worked several of her performances. She was a real sweetheart and very gracious (not to mention very talented). I thoroughly enjoyed her performances each and every time.

Christine was a beautiful person.

My sincerest condolences to her family, friends and her loved ones.

I was one of your new students, Christine, and after a few courses, you had already enchanted my life, filled it with music and joy. You were the sun in my week. Your smile was warming up my heart. And your voice will now keep resonating in my heart. I will never forget you. Never. Thank you for having been part of my life, I feel blessed.

I send all my condolences to Christine's family members and closed friends. She will keep singing to you, from wherever she is...

christine,
thanks for your love, thanks for your friendship, thanks for an inspiring life. i'd say it's too soon, and it is. Even though you knew the art of leaving your audience wanting more. That doesn't apply to me, so I feel short-changed. Whatever, that time you bought me some Dim Sum when I was hungry - we're even.

On behalf of all the staff and all the students at the Montreal Academy of Music, we are so thankful to you Christine for having been such an inspiration to so many of us. Dear Christina, I was shocked and sad to hear the news of your passing last week.We met when we were 19, through a mutual friend. We hadn't seen each other in years and until last week I did not remember we attended the same college and university. This saddened me as well. What I did remember was your talent and your warmth. I regret that our paths did not cross more often, as we had much in common and I know we would have been good friends. Wherever you are, may you know how much you have been loved and how many lives you touched and inspired. You are now a great inspiration to me and I will always remember you. R.I.P.

My deepest sympathies to your mom Norma, your brother Michael, your partner Danny, as well as extended family and friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Aunt Norma and Michael,
I am disgusted with the thought of Christina not being with us anymore. I don't even know what to say except that her early passing has saddened me and my entire family tremendously. She was such a beautiful, vibrant and magnetic person and a gift to all of us. I pray that she rests in peace with her dad and for eternity. I also will pray for time to make your sorrow easier. One thing for sure, you will never forget. None of us will ever forget her.

My heart goes out to her loved ones. She had so much talent and sweetness to share. I will always cherish our honest and warm exchanges. My dearest Christine, my Carmen, my Aida, my Juliette, my Goddess of music. I cannot believe that you are gone. I cannot believe that I will no longer see those big golden eyes and that beautifully chiseled face. The soft and milky luminescent skin that glowed from within. I believe in God because of you and I know that he has called you by his side. You taught me how to breath, you taught me how to sing and how to live.

You made me tea and we spoke of angels. I pray that your mother and brother and Danny can find peace and solace in their hearts and to them, I offer my deepest sympathies.

You have touched so many lives with your warmth, energy, kindness and talent. You have the voice of a thousand angels. I love you and I always will. Farewell my favorite Diva and perpetual teenager. Couldn't love you more than I already do.

We met each other in high school while dancing disco at lunchtime and we hit it off then. You were a sweet and precious girl then. We went our separate ways and met 30some years later and it was as if the years apart just disappeared. Your smile and glistening eyes were shining just like when we were kids. You will be missed by friends and family. God bless you and your family. You are truly an angel from above.

First and foremost, my most heartfelt sympathies to Mrs. Atallah and to Michael. I am so sorry to see you suffer so much loss in so little time, to lose a husband, a daughter, a father and a sister . As well as to Danny and to all who were close to her. I so truly wish I was there to share your grief and your pain and to offer you my love and comfort in any way I can.
For me, Christine was a very dear and true friend. I'm sure that everyone who knew her was touched in some way, whether it was by her joyful ways, positive energy or her passion for life, for music, for people and for animals.
What struck me most after the initial heartbreaking pain of losing such a dear friend was that I can't recall one single negative memory between us, only positive memories, even in times of trouble. Of course, there were irritating moments as is typical with strong personalities and over long-term relationships, such as, for example, when she'd love and hug and kiss her cat to death, or when she'd spread herself thin all over the planet (please note that I write this with a smile on my lips). However, these were only occasional negative extremes of her strongest qualities- her diva heart full of love, her passion for life and her generosity of spirit.
Upon contemplation, I realise how much our relationship was based on a very positive foundation and also, how much she had a positive influence in my life.
Christine lived, very consciously, with personal integrity, always striving to seek out the positive in everything; to enjoy and to respect life to the fullest; to appreciate the moment. Furthermore, she always encouraged her friends to do the same, to develop themselves to their fullest potential, to be and to believe in themselves... and often when it counted the most for that person.
“Ella fui una mujer que vivio mas que una mujer de cien anos”. (She was a woman who lived more than a hundred year old woman).
Given all this, just having had her in my life, even for such a short time, is worth a hundred times the pain of losing her so soon.
Yesterday morning, Ricardo brought me to la Iglesia de Regla , a town on the other side of the Havana harbour, to offer her a candle, a beautiful bouquet of white mariposas and one red flower at the altar of “la Santa de la Regla”, the patron saint of Cuba, of sailors and of the oceans, as she loved the sea so much. I spent the morning in prayer and the afternoon by the seashore contemplating her life, and... her presence.
This evening November 2nd 2011 at 8 pm, in keeping with the spirit of her musician friends, a small group of Ricardo's Trova musician-poet friends gracefully accepted to gather on the veranda of my home here to dedicate an hour of music and of poetry in honour of her spirit.
Of all the songs, we would like to dedicate one in particular. It was written by Ricardo the other day and the melody was fine-tuned with the help of Sinesio and of myself (yes Christine, you heard right, myself!).
It is a very soft, beautiful, loving and melodic song with a spiritual and soulful message. It is within the energy and spirit of this song that I would like to thank her for being in our lives, to let her know how much we loved her and to let her go...peacefully.
“Tu manos siempre en el reloj”
(Tes mains toujours dans l'horloge)
“Para iso que tu andas”
(C'est pour cela que tu marches)
“Respiro y siento lo que soy”
(Je respire et je ressens ce que je suis)
“Una luz de tu alma”
(Une lumière de ton âme)
“Y quiero volves a ser”
(Et je desire te voir revenir à toi-même)
“Como un nino en el agua”
(Comme un enfant dans l'eau)
“Y pienso sentirme asi”
(Et je penses me sentir ainsi)
“Una luz en tu casa”
(Une lumière dans ta maison)

Et toi, Christine, une lumière dans notre vie.

Rest in peace my friend. I hope you're with your dad singing and dancing with angels, swimming with dolphins and loving, kissing and hugging cats with all your heart!!!!

I met and shared many beautiful and always happy moments with Christine in my home city of New York in the late eighties early nineties. I was dazzled by her brilliance and unlimited talented, but most of all by her enormous heart and capacity for compassion. I am speechless, extremely sad, and I struggle to think of a world without her physical presence, but am strengthened by the knowledge that she has left her heart with us here in the form of her amazing voice, music and lyrics. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends I never had the pleasure to meet and to her life partner Danny. Christine, I love you forever, thank you for your friendship...

Dear Norma and family: It is indeed with sadness and sorrow that we received word of the passing of Christine. This news comes with such heartfelt disbelief, shock and sadness, I can't even believe it... I have literally lost my breath and I am so certain that I am not alone in this feeling.
Such a welcoming and particularly "inclusive" woman, and this is what I remember of Christine, with her ability to welcome literally everyone into her life and home, and of course "we" all felt welcomed, because she embraced everyone with open arms.
I can't express enough, my sympathies to her family, her partner and her many, many friends for this sudden and tragic loss.
With much love, warmth, and comfort

For me the most incomprehensible news that I ever heard. Christine is the incwarnation of Love, Music, Action, Life. She is for ever present, full of compassion and eternelly with us. DANY is the person to continue the creation and hold and developp the heritage of Christine. Yves ALAVO, from Montreal.
