MORTON, Alfred Joseph
October 13, 1918 - September 13, 2012
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred Morton. Alfred passed away, after a brief illness, at the Valleyfield Hospital on September 13, 2012 in his 94th year. He will be greatly missed by his wife Denise, sons David (Josée) and Denis, daughter Anne (Glenn), grandchildren Quetzal (Mariana), Matthew, Jade, Liam and great grandchild Emilio. Alfred was pre-deceased by three brothers and a sister. He was very close to his younger brother Arthur who passed away a month ago in BC. Born in Montreal, Alfred was six years old when his father died in an industrial accident. The following decade would see him live with family and foster homes in Montreal, Toronto and Winnipeg. He crossed Canada several times hopping rail cars during the depression years in search of work. Alfred joined the army and was part of the first contingent of Canadian soldiers that went overseas in 1939. He served for over six years in England, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Alfred worked at the Ste-Anne's Vet's hospital in the 50's where he met his future wife. He later worked at the Lakeshore General Hospital from it's opening to his retirement. Always the hard worker, Alfred continued to work as a roofer and carpenter until the age of 76 and he built a garage at 80. Alfred was the kind; strong quiet type that was always willing to help others. He was a wonderful, caring father and a loving husband. He was also an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. A celebration of his life will take place on the shore of his beloved Lake of Two Mountains at La Maison Trestler, 85 Chemin de la Commune, Vaudreuil-Dorion, Qc J7V 2C3, on Saturday September 22nd from 1pm to 5pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Friends of Veterans Canada. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Voluntas (514-695-7979/
