WRIGHT, Bernadette Dunphy
1922 - 2013
Bernadette Dunphy Wright of Kirkland, Quebec passed away peacefully at her residence on January 27th. 2013 at the age of 90. Bernadette was the youngest daughter of Mary Ellen Sullivan and Bernard Dunphy and a niece of Father William Sullivan the founder of St. Kevin's parish in Montreal. She had a happy childhood growing up at the large Sullivan family triplex on Hutchison st. near Bernard ave. with her sisters Eileen, Agnes, Rita and her younger brother Thomas. According to her sister Eileen the pretty and petite Bernadette was the apple of her father's eye. The gregarious police sergent loved to treat his daughter to baseball games at Delormier Stadium and hockey games at the Forum. In April 1945 Bernadette married a young man who was very much like her father and she didn't have to look very far to find him. Eddy Wright was an athlete and family man and was working hard to help support his widowed mother. The Wright family lived on the Outremont side of Hutchison st. almost directly across from the Dunphy family. Edward was an offficer in the Royal Canadian Navy and a survivor of the HMCS Levis which was torpedoed in the north Atlantic in Sept. 1941. The happy couple were married in Digby,N.S. where Edward was based during WWII. Returning to Montreal after the war they raised 5 children and had a very happy life together. Edward passed away in 1992 and their son Glenn in 2011. Bernadette's siblings pre-deceased her. She is survived by her daughter Darlene who was her best friend and cared for her during her final years and her loving sons Edward, Garry (Lynn and Luca) and Brian. She was also very proud of her extended family. Survivors include her nephews and godsons Michael Corbett (Heather Pond) and Peter Pope and nieces and nephews of the Corbett, Pope, MacNab, Dunphy, Boston and Wright families. A special thank you to the staff of the CLSC Lac St.Louis for their visits to Bernadette. The interment service at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery is planned for May. It will be followed by a gathering of family and friends to honour a very humble and gifted lady.
