I had the honor and privilege of knowing and admiring him first as a our teacher at the architectural school in Bucharest and, much later, meeting him again here in Toronto, Canada. Same thoughtfulness, charisma, energy and talent.

Cu nemasurata tristete am aflat de moartea domnului Dan Hanganu si de aceea simtim nevoia sa va transmitem pe aceasta cale cele mai sincere condoleante.
O persoana atat de creativa si dedicata este o pierdere mare si imposibil de realizat.
Cu mare tristete aducem un ultim omagiu si o ultima multumire pentru contributia lui si pentru sursa de inspiratie care este el pentru noi toti. Odihna in pacea eterna.

Am cunoscut un om deosebit, de forta, cu mare personalitate, un arhitect deosebit care s-a impus pe tarim strain cu laude prin munca, vointa, si indeosebi prin talent. Si-a indeplinit ''misiunea'' cum putini au facut-o.

Cu imensa tristete în suflet adresez sincere condoleante Ancai, Karinei si Simonei. Voi pastra întotdeauna în memorie pretioase amintiri din vietile noastre si delicate momente petrecute împreuna.
mi este atât de dificil sa exprim toata mâhnirea resimtita pentru disparitia lui Dan - l-am comparat cu un stejar pentru ca încarna toate simbolurile acestui majestuos arbore al padurilor: independenta, forta, libertatea, ospitalitatea, rezistenta si curajul dialecticii. Reprezenta un pod între realitatea concreta verticala si realitatea spirituala invizibila. Dan era si va ramâne mândria comunitatii române din Canada. Odihna în pace si lumina eterna.

Tucu este un om complet, un architect de exceptie, mentor, coleg, prieten, sot si tata, o personalitate care a marcat pozitiv si ireversibil vietile celor care au avut privilegiul de a-l cunoaste, si de a face parte din viata lui.

Recunostinta, admiratie si dragoste pentru un mare arhitect si un om extraordinar, care mi-a deschis drumul catre aceasta profesie minunata, pe cand era un tanar universitar si eu, impreuna cu cea mai iubita dintre prietene, Ancuta, elevele lui. Cuvintele mele nu pot descrie durerea si tristetea pe care le-a lasat in urma plecarea lui, neasteptata. Dumnezeu sa il odihneasca in pace. Dan was so full of life, so vibrant - it still seems surreal to register the fact that he is no more physically in this world - although his legacy will live on forever. Even referring to him in the past tense seems weird - because somehow, with his magnetic presence, you never imagined him to be absent from this world.
Words cannot express the sadness and shock I feel at his passing. He was my architecture mentor and I will always hold dear the memories of working with him and with Anca for several years. His office had become like a second home to me. The memories of him running down the steps from his upstairs area, often in a flurry, as he addressed one of his associates or us, often excited with his high-energy mannerisms as some deadline loomed near - are so embedded, to know I'll never see him again is devastating. Besides architectural lessons, I enjoyed our reflective talks, his unabashed, unfiltered sense of humor and the fact that he was genuinely humble and disliked many of the superficial frills of society, while at the same time was very appreciative of the finer aspects of life.
My deepest condolences to his family, colleagues and friends, and especially to Anca who was like a second mother to me when I worked with her at another firm, and to Nathan and Gilles his associates who are two of the most talented, wisest, kindest men I have known in life.
You will be deeply missed, Dan. Words don't do justice to the sense of loss many of us feel. May you rest in peace.

I learned so much from him and it was a privilege to work for him. I still remember the happy day when I received a phone call from him asking me to join his firm. It was like a dream come true; as I had long admired his buildings even before I'd met him.
With him I could have candid conversations and he always gave me advice about life, work and his hilarious observations of human nature, peppered with his usual straightforward style of speaking. He was a paradox - both with a childlike joy, enthusiasm & curiosity and yet with the sadness, wisdom and melancholy of an old soul. Complex and truly one-of-a-kind. And of course, he will always remain a genius of architecture.
My deepest condolences to his daughters, his family, colleagues and friends, and especially to Anca who was like a second mother to me when I worked with her at another firm, and to Nathan and Gilles his associates who are two of the most talented, wisest, kindest men I have known in life.
Dan will be deeply missed. Words don't do justice to the sense of loss many of us feel.
(Since due to certain passport-logistical-issues, I may not be able to attend the funeral in person, a fact I'm deeply sad about, I hope to convey, if even a fraction of my grief at his passing, here.)

Sunt atat de trista de cand am aflat, inca nu imi vine sa cred. Am avut privilegiul sa ii vad cladirile in 2010 cand am fost cu o bursa la Montreal, si pe el de cateva ori in Romania cand a venit ca oaspete la universitatea noastra, cel mai memorabil in noiembrie anul trecut cand a tinut o prezentare. Imi pare nespus de rau ca nu am folosit timpul putin cat ne-am vazut pentru a acumula mai multe memorii, necrezand ca va pleca atat de repede dintre noi. Montreal este un oras de care sunt legata sufleteste avand rude acolo si imi doresc sa ajung sa revad constructiile. Dumnezeu sa il ierte si sa il odihneasca! Sper ca si calugarii de la Saint Benoit du Lac sa se roage pentru el, ca arhitecti avem privilegiul de a lucra la biserici si a contribui astfel la opera de mantuire. Ieri dimineata am aprins si eu o lumanare si m-am rugat la o slujba, si i-am amintit pe cei disparuti si la prelegerea despre biserici pe care am avut-o seara.
