David Jones

April 17, 1958 - May 20, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David Henry Jones.

Born in Montreal, on April 17, 1958, David had a passion and curiosity for the world around him that he carried with him throughout his entire life. From his students, patients, colleagues, neighbours, friends and family, David had a profound impact on many people's lives. His thoughtfulness, integrity and big heart will be greatly missed.

Son of the late Albert and Elizabeth Jones, and brother of Sylvie, Evelyn, Tyler and Steven, he leaves behind his devoted wife and soul mate Carol, and his loving sons Matthew and Ben.

David, thank you for being in our lives, for the times that we shared, and for being such an incredibly kind and good person. You are an inspiration and a role model to us all. We will miss you so very much.

A visitation will take place on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and a tribute will take place on Monday, May 26, 2014 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Both will be held at the Collins Clarke Funeral Home, 307 Riverside, St-Lambert, Quebec.

A burial will follow Monday's tribute at the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery, in Montreal, followed by a celebration of David's life at the family residence.

The family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

My heart goes out now and always to Mr. David Jones' family and close friends. May God bless you with strength everyday. As one of Mr. Jones' students, I had the gift to be in the presence of a fine man, and a sincere, great teacher who educated and trained us to be effective passionate professionals. He had a way to find and refine the inner therapist in each and everyone of his students. Mr. Jones lived as an honest and humble example that patience, curiosity and hard work feeds our intellectual and personal growth for years to come. I will forever be grateful for his serious and paternal guidance which because of him allowed us to be good therapists and do what we love to do. You will always be missed and remembered.

A wonderful teacher, mentor and man. The patience and belief he had for his students and patients remains sharp in my mind as I attempt to pass it on to my students and those patients I have the honour of treating. My sincere sympathies to his wife and sons. His memory will live on for many years within me. Glad to have been graced by his presence.

My deepest sympathies to Dave's family and friends. Dave was more than a teacher to me, he was an amazing individual, who always encouraged me and let me know that I knew more than I thought I did. I will never forget a lab exam that I did with him. I was so nervous I went in with tears and he reassured me that I knew what I was doing. He was actor for my scenario, and I had to treat his finger.

My prayers are with you Carol, Matthew and Ben.

I first met Dave as a student back in 1994 and was fortunate enough to call him a collegue some time after that between 2001 and 2006. I was, and remain, quite saddened by the news of his sudden passing because he was without question one of the primary architects of my professional perspective and was THE example of the fact that professionalism and genuine compassion can merge together...the result was an exceptional human being who has influenced me beyond my ability to explain or write. The warm sympathies and outpouring of thoughts will certainly be plentiful, so this specific message will likely blend into the rest and collectively form a lasting memory...but I wish it known that Dave's contribution to me personally and professionaly is immeasurable and I owe a great deal of thanks to him (and his family) for being a pure manifestation of decency, devotion, and dedication. The effects of time will inevitably blur and blunt the strong feelings of loss...but they always make way for lasting memories at the forefront. I will always consider Dave as one of the most influential figures in my development as a professional and as a person.
God speed to my friend and mentor.

The news came as a shock to us both as it did to the rest of the Exercise Science community. To someone who was literally the wind beneath our wing, David, you always had confidence in us and the subtle jokes that always made us laugh will always be remembered! Our condolences to the Jones family.

Sincere sympathies for the sudden loss. My immediate thoughts go to Dave's family. Please know that his impact on those all around him was - always - genuinely positive. His contribution to the workplace, to the learning of so many students, and to the betterment of his coworkers is immense. His good humour, his gentle but firm approach, and his daily courtesy were trademarks. Memories will also include his remarkable integrity and dedication - he was so very able to make those around him better. We will all miss Dave dearly.
