GATBONTON, Elizabeth June 11, 1941 November 29, 2017 It is with great sorrow that we report the passing of Elizabeth Gatbonton, suddenly but peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday, November 29, 2017. She is survived by her husband Norman Segalowitz, her daughters Nina and Miri; grandchildren Francis, Sierra, Nevaeh, and Ashleigh-Beth; sisters Rose, Marlyn, and Thelma, and brothers Banny, Jed, Alex, and Rally; and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her parents Rosita and Flaviano Gatbonton of the Philippines, her sister Fatima, and brothers Francis and Christopher. Beth had recently retired as a professor of Applied Linguistics from Concordia University where she had been involved in language teaching, language-teacher training, and language revitalization projects in Canada and internationally. She will be deeply missed by family, friends, colleagues and former students around the globe. There will be an open house at their home to welcome family and friends wishing to pay their respects and reminisce: Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. each day at 4020 Madison Avenue, Montreal, in NDG. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to AMI-Quebec (amiquebec.org) or to your preferred charity.
