1927 - 2012
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ernst H. Kofler on June 9, 2012. He will be deeply missed by Gisela, his wife of 53 years, his daughter Christine (Robert) and family, his grandchildren Alexander and Brittany, his stepchildren Ingrid and Jens and his extended family in Europe. Born in Austria, Ernst studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and held his first one-man show in that city during the third year of his studies in 1947. This show earned him an invitation to join one of the six official Viennese artists associations. Ernst exhibited frequently in Vienna and various other Austrian cities. He received the award for painting during the Franco-Austrian Cultural Festival in 1950. In 1953, Ernst immigrated to Canada where he continued to paint as well as work as an illustrator and designer. In 1970 his painting "A Resurgence of Hope" received a Price Fine Arts award. Ernst's paintings are represented in various public collections of the city of Vienna, the Provincial Art Gallery of Carinthia, Austria and in many private collections in Europe and Canada. Ernst was not only an artist but also a linguist, a horticulturist and an aficionado of Indian cooking and classical music. He was a true Renaissance man. A Celebration of his life will take place on Friday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 ch. de la Forêt, Outremont, QC, H2V 2P9 (514) 279-6540. In lieu of flowers donations to the Ernst Kofler Memorial Fund to benefit the Heart Failure Clinic at the Jewish General Hospital would be appreciated. www.jghfoundation.org/ sections/givingtribute.html
