BERGIN, Gloria
August 30, 1949 - February 8, 2013
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear sister Gloria, born in Dublin, Ireland to the late Thomas I. Bergin and the late Sarah O'Reilly. Gloria passed away on February 8th, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Gloria spent most of her life on the West Island and enjoyed a long career with the Royal Bank, leaving her position as assistant manager of the Econoscope due to illness. Always ready to try anything, she approached every new thing with class, determination and passion - from horseback riding, photography, diving and fencing to her beloved tennis and painting. Talented artist and seamstress, Gloria wowed with her creations. Her spirit, courage and strength were a source of inspiration to all that met and knew her. Gloria leaves to mourn her family; Rose (Mike), Thomas, Raymond (Lynne), Mary (Bryan), Regina (Frank), Terry (Karen) and Sue along with numerous nieces and nephews. She will be forever missed by her special friend and companion Keith Grassie and her much loved, faithful dog Brandy. Gloria's courage and grace was tested by illness that required her to undergo a double lung transplant at Notre Dame Hospital in 2000. The sacrifice and generosity of the donor family was always gratefully acknowledged and appreciated as was the care and treatment received at Notre Dame, the Jewish General and Lakeshore General Hospitals. Those of us who loved Gloria would like to specifically thank: Drs Ferraro and Poirier and the rest of the transplant team at Notre Dame. Drs Hier and Khanna at the Jewish General, Drs Loertscher, Serban and Weber at Lakeshore General as well as the nurses and staff at the hemodialysis department and the nurses on the 3rd floor north who showed such compassion and care in Gloria's final days. Funeral Mass and celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Mary Queen of Peace, 11075 Gouin Blvd. W, Pierrefonds. The interment will follow the service, at Rideau Memorial Gardens, 4239 Sources Blvd, DDO. A reception will be held at the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club, 1350 Lakeshore Drive in Dorval after the burial ceremony. Donations in Gloria's memory would be gratefully accepted at the following; The LAM Foundation, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Montreal SPCA. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Rideau Funeral Home (514) 685-3344.
