Passed away peacefully in Montreal, on Monday, December 3rd 2012 Guy Desjardins, beloved husband of the late Jeannine Viger, eldest son of the late Henri Desjardins and the late Marguerite Denault. He is survived by his children Louise (J. Yvon Goyette) and Marc (Marie Girouard), his beloved grandchildren Matthieu and Mercedes, his sisters Marthe and Françoise (Bernard Dubois) as well as his many nephews and nieces, relatives, friends and colleagues. A graduate of the University of Montreal, admitted to the Quebec Bar in 1947, he co- founded the law firm Desjardins Ducharme, where he primarily practiced civil litigation and commercial law. Special Counsel to the Department of Justice of Canada from 1955 to 1959, Chief Crown Prosecutor from 1960 to 1964, President of the Disciplinary Council of the Montreal Bar for three years, President of the Legal Reference Service from 1968 to 1981 and Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1985, he had been made Queen's Counsel in 1961.
During the course of his career, he was recognized as one of the best advocates in the country. His colleagues and clients will remember his tenacity and his competence. He won numerous awards In College and University debates as well as at the Junior Chamber of Commerce and in the Liberal Youth movement. He also showed great talent in Shakespearian theatre when at Loyola. In 1944, he founded with Maurice Sauvé and Maurice Hébert, the Société Macabre, a literary society that encouraged and organized debates.
Whether in Court, on the golf course, at the bridge table or as a political orator, he had a sense of theatricals and was outspoken, inspired by law and justice, and reflecting his strong personality.
The family offers special thanks to those who accompanied him in his final years and helped him enjoy pleasant moments still.
The family will welcome at 1:30 p.m. all who wish to attend a musical tribute by the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal on Sunday, December 9th 2012, followed by a reception.
