In October 1975 I had dinner with Nancy in Waltham, Mass. I never saw her after that, but I remember the dinner, and her. Beautiful, brilliance, passion.

I knew Nancy in college-- we both attended Brandeis University. I'm a musician, and she was a writer, and we were soulmates for a brief time. I will always remember her.

It's only a few months ago that I first met Nancy and Vicki, after they moved into Tapestry, where my husband Adam lives. I was immediately drawn to their smiling beatific presence. There were several significant conversations - and what a delight to discover that Nancy was an author and then to read her books - beautifully crafted and profound. Adam and I identified Nancy and Vicki as likely allies in the campaign to get more vegetarian dishes on the menu at Tapestry. We last saw Nancy when we had dinner together in December - we knew she was ill but had no idea that the end would come so fast. It is still a shock. But I am grateful for having known Nancy even briefly and we both send our deepest sympathies to Vicki and the family. Nancy burned bright and was extinguished way too soon.

Is it heartbreaking to read this, however beautifully expressed. It is also hard to fathom that such a vital and vibrant soul has gone. Our love to you, Vicki, and to all of Nancy's beautiful family. Rhea and Sam

Dear Vicki, it seems unfathomable to me that Nancy's name and likeness are listed in the obituary section. Although we did not see each other often, I feel that you two have been part of the fabric of my life. And now there is hole. I offer you my heart felt condolences and ongoing friendship. With Love, Judy

Nancy is well remembered here too on Galiano Island. She was a smiling, interested presence that I got to know in several ways. I had a job at our island's Ferry Terminal, a place that Nancy passed through regularly. She always had a friendly greeting, a "hello". I had grown-up in Ontario, lived in Ottawa for many years, was a
frequent visitor to Montreal, Nancy's home city. We often shared stories from "back east". She & Vicki lived in my island neighbourhood for awhile &, at least a couple of times, they both stopped in for a garden tour. Nancy was an interested, questioning guest. Later, after I'd read & enjoyed her novel, Your Mouth is Lovely, Nancy agreed to autograph my copy writing, "May you enjoy this in your beautiful garden". A generous, open person who is/will be, much missed. I extend sincere condolences, from myself & partner, Marek, to Vicki.

I met Nancy when I first opened Galiano Island Books many years ago, and Nancy read at our store during those early years. She was a wonderful presence on our island, loved by many. Extremely talented writer , a person of grace. She will be sorely missed.

As I read all these wonderful tributes I am mindful of Nancy's compassionate and generous spirit. I shared a story with Nancy a number of years ago about one of my daughters who was going through some pretty big challenges - she gave me some real insight and wisdom at the time - and forever after every time we spoke she made sure to check in that said daughter was doing alright. She is Nancy. One of the many things I'll remember about her. And that laugh. A gift from heaven. Love and prayers to you Vicki from our whole family.

I met Nancy in the capacity of providing care for her so she could remain at home with Vicki for as long as possible. I was so impressed with her vitality, understanding, warmth and optimism. She always appreciated the help she received and saw the good in everyone. around her.It was an honour and a privilege to have met her and helped her in some way. I am enjoying reading her books and I know she will live on in so many ways

Dear Nancy, Generous lovely soul who gave so much to the world. I was in a Book Club with her, in Vancouver; she taught us so much with her wise, passionate observations. She and Vicki also gave me a beautiful old oak table that I used in my law practice for years and is still here in the dining room, as a remembrance. I learned so much from Nancy and will miss her. Deep condolences to Vicki, Diane, all Nancy's family that was her centre.

Nancy, it seemed to me, loved people. She often walked past our house on her way to the Calabria Caffe where she enjoyed a coffee as she sat in the window and wrote. I imagine everyone who knew her felt the warmth of her personality, and the welcoming smile that seemed always on her face. A warm embrace to Vickie and all her friends and family for their loss.

Dear Diane, Vicki and all of my wonderful cousins, I was so very sad to hear that Nancy has passed away. It is simply too heartbreaking to think of her in the past tense. I know that there are so many incredible memories to help sustain you during this time of mourning - happily, I have some too - and regardless of our personal and spiritual beliefs, I choose to think of Nancy somewhere, some place, with dear Myer.
