SUGARMAN, Norman Edward
1941 - 2013
It is with much sadness & heavy hearts that our Family announces the all too soon passing of our much loved Husband, Father, Granddaddy, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. Norm died in his 73rd year after surviving Cancer & triple heart bypass surgery and enduring the wrath of Parkinson's Disease plus Multi- Systems Atrophy. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. Irwin & Miriam (Cohen) Sugarman and his younger sister, Nancy Gelman (New Jersey). He leaves behind to grieve his wife of 44 years, Marsha (Kivenko), Daughters Lori Jill (Kevin Li) and Marnie Andrea (Stephen Adler), Grandchildren Samantha & Mia Adler, Tyson & Damon Li. After earning an MBA from Michigan State, Norm worked as Merchandising Manager for M.Loeb Ltd. in Ottawa. He came to Kingston in 1973 to Manage I. Cohen & Company founded by his maternal Grandfather. When the business closed after many successful years under his management, Norm began a long run as "scrap" Manager for Kimco Steel Sales. His many colleagues will miss him greatly and we thank them for their years of friendship & devotion. Norm always made time for volunteerism and served as President of the RSIO (Reinforcing Steel Institute of Ontario), as well as Treasurer, V.P. and President of Beth Israel Synagogue. He was an active member of B'nai Brith Canada & the local Kingston Chapter for over 40 years and served on the Board of the Jewish National Fund spearheading the local 'Blue Box' Campaigns. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 3rd at 11:00 am at the Beth Israel Synagogue, 116 Centre St. Kingston, ON., with burial in the Beth Israel Cemetery on Sydenham Road. Shiva/ visitation will be held in Kingston at 165 Ontario Street, Suite 905: Shiva visits daily Tuesday - Thursday 1:00 - 4:00 pm and 7:00 - 9:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 - 9:00 pm, with evening Services: 7:00 pm. Shiva will continue in Toronto at 12 Glenayr Road: Sunday 1:00 - 5:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm with services 7:00 pm. Shiva concludes Monday morning December 9th. We want to thank St. Elizabeth Healthcare, St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital, Dr. Ivan Stewart, Dr. Ross McIlquham and the Nurses & PSWs who helped Norm throughout his illness. We especially recognize the compassionate care and tender treatment given him by Suyapa Barrera for the past three years. We certainly could not have managed this stressful time without her assistance & generous caregiving.
'Nap' peacefully Normie.
