ACHSEN, Rachel
Rachel Achsen (née Landau) died with great courage and dignity, surrounded by her loving family in Jerusalem, Israel, on July 25, 2014. She was the devoted wife of Joseph Achsen for 64 years, the cherished mother of Jacques, Michel, and Gilbert, and the proud grandmother of Jarrett and Ira. Rachel was born September 29, 1928, in Paris, France, the youngest of six children of Yenta Gotesgenade z"l and Mendel (Menachem Dov) Landau z"l. A child survivor of the Holocaust, Rachel is predeceased by her siblings: Fanny Langenuhr z"l, Jacques z"l, who perished in the Holocaust, and Léon z"l, and Paul z"l. She also leaves to mourn her older sister Feiga, her sister-in-law Colette, and many devoted nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, cousins, and dear friends and colleagues, whose lives she touched in Canada, France, Israel and the United States. Rachel was a woman of culture who loved life and people. Generous and thoughtful, her concern was always for others. She was respected by everyone and will leave a great void in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to have known her. May her memory be a blessing. Burial in Jerusalem on July 27, 2014.
