BARRAS, Robert Edgar
July 6, 1933 – March 23, 2015
Robert (Bob) passed away peacefully at Hull hospital at the age of 81, in the presence of his loving family. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Diane, his children, David (Janet), Lianne (Syed Hamad Gardezi), and Robbie, and his grandson Stefan. Employed by the Lakeshore School Board, Bob had a long and dedicated career as principal and vice- principal of various schools on the West Island of Montreal. He also travelled to Germany on a two-year teaching assignment, taught English for three years at a French college in Madagascar, and served for five years as the principal of the Canadian Section of S.H.A.P.E. International Schools in Belgium. In retirement, he especially appreciated cottage time in the Laurentians. Following Bob's wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. A private service will be held later this summer in his place of birth, Quebec City. If desired, donations in Bob's memory to the Canadian Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.

My sympathy to Bob family. He was my French teach way back farther than I care to remember. Sorry Bob I never did learn to speak French . I have thought of you often over the years. God Bless your family.

Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your dad. He was my French teacher at Lakeside Heights, John Rennie, and then a colleague at Northview. We all enjoyed his wicked sense of humour and dry wit. He will live on in many hearts he touched over the years.

For Diane,
Please accept my condolences. I did some student teaching at J. Rennie while Bob was Principal there. He was very much respected and admired, not such an easy accomplishment. It seems that as we get older, Quebec and QHS seem even more dear to our hearts. It seems special to me that Bob will have his final resting space there. With fond memories,

Bob Barras was my french teacher at John Rennie High School in Pointe Claire. We lived on the same street and if I was fast enough in the morning I could get a ride to school! I was a counsellor at WMCA Camp Oolahwan as was Bob's sister Diane; I never met his children but send them my condolences for their loss. After finishing my studies I married a Spaniard in Montreal and have been living in Spain since 1965. Nevertheless I still remember my youth and many of the people who made up fond memories.
