1927 - 2013
With great sadness: Robert (Bob) Rennie passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa at the age of 85. Robert was happily married to Margaret (Marg) Rennie (Andrews) for 60 years. He is survived by his wife Margaret and his children Marilyn E. Orr (Ross) of Toronto; Robert A. Rennie (Laura) of Ottawa and his nine grandchildren: Stewart, Chris, Meredith, Jessica, Jaclyn, Robyn, Brian, Catherina & Alison. He was predeceased by his brother Howard Rennie in 1944 and his daughter Corinne Butler (Gary) of Orangeville, ON in 2001. He is survived by his brother Allan R. Rennie (Ruth) of Kleinburg, ON. Bob was born in Montreal and attended West Hill H.S. and McGill University where he became a Chartered Accountant. He spent his career with Touche Ross (Deloitte Touche) where he was a partner for 33 years and he served as Chair of the Canadian Firm from 1975 to 1986 and as Chairman of the Board of Governors of Touche Ross International. Bob retired in 1990 and was elected Chairman of the Board of Canadian Insurance Group Limited, and in this capacity became director of several public and private companies. He was also the Chairman of the Accounting and Auditing Research Committee of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, Chairman of the Accountants International Study Group and was a founding member of the Canadian Comprehensive Auditing Foundation. Bob was very active in charitable and community organizations and particularly enjoyed his work with the Salvation Army. He was awarded the Queen's Silver Anniversary Medal in 1977. Bob travelled for business and pleasure and was an avid reader and golfer. He was a member of many clubs; Summerlea Golf & Country Club, QC (President 1966), Mount Bruno Country Club, QC, Amberwood Village Golf & Country Club, ON, The Meadows Golf Club, FL, The Mount Royal Club (Chairman 1989), The Saint James's Club, QC, The Forest and Stream Club, QC, the Pointe Claire Curling Club, QC, and the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association, QC. Cremation and a private family interment are planned. A Celebration of Robert Rennie's life will be held on Friday, May 10th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Amberwood Village Golf & Country Club in Stittsville, ON. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses in emergency and the ICU at Queensway Carleton Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
