Roger Blais passed away peacefully on November 9, 2012, at the age of 95 he was surrounded by his wife, his six children and their spouses, and his grand-children.
Roger Blais was born at Giffard in 1917. A student of the fine arts, Captain during World War II, a pioneer of the French team at the National Film Board, Writer and Professor, his work comprises over a hundred films which have helped shape the cinematic arts and which have earned numerous prizes abroad. He directed an anthropological mission in Papua-New Guinea for the United Nations. He was Director of the Audio-visual Department for Expo 67.
Roger Blais was promoted to the Order of Canada in 2000 and Knight of the National Order of Quebec in 2005.
He was a most remarkable man and loved by all. He leaves in mourning his spouse Louise Bellavance, with whom he was married for sixty-seven years, his six children, Pierre, Marc (Louise Arbique), Eric, Jean, Pascal (Catherine Beaubien), Chantale (Albert Cohen), his ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Veterans Hospital at Saint-Anne and highlight the care he received at the hands of the Montreal General Hospital staff.
A religious ceremony will be held Saturday, November 17th, at 1:30 p.m. La Présentation Church 665 rue De l'Église, Dorval, Quebec
