In Montreal, after a brief stay in hospital, Roger Comtois, Professor Emiritus of the Law faculty of the University of Montreal, Notary honorabilis, died peacefully on February 7 at the age of 92 minus two days. He was the son of Isidore Comtois and Malvina Houde of Saint-Eustache. He is survived by his beloved wife Evelyn Michaud, his two daughters Lorraine (Alain Devost), Andrée (Guy Bourduas,), His six grandchildren: Julie Berthold, Etienne Berthold (Josiane Gervais), Jean-Christophe and Gabriel-Arnaud Berthold, Elise and Mathieu Bourduas (Cloé Landreville), his three great-grandchildren Zachary Roberge, Antoine Berthold and Eloi Bourduas. He is survived by his sister Gabrielle (Jos Landreville). He will always be remembered fondly by Evelyn's sons: Bernard Bilodeau (Susan Ross), Claude Bilodeau (Joanne Farley) and her four grandchildren who always knew Roger as their dear grandfather: Brigitte. Sophie, Ariane and Sébastien Bilodeau. Roger Comtois obtained his Law Degree from the University of Montreal and became a member of La Chambre des Notaires and practiced for three years as a Notary in Lachute. He then became Professor of Law at the University of Montreal where he taught until his retirement in 1984. He was Dean of the Faculty from 1976 until 1980. From 1951 Roger Comtois was also very active in his Notarial Profession. He became President of La Chambre des Notaires from 1966 to 1969. He was a member of l'Office de Revision du Code Civil and acted as President of "Les Régimes Matrimoniaux" Committee who recommended "La Société d "Acquets" which was accepted and became Law in Quebec. He was the author of many Civil Law Books and was the Editor of "La revue du Notariat" for 42 years. Notary Comtois received many decorations: A Honorary PHD from the University of Ottawa, he became Officer of the Order of Canada in 1982, for ten years, the Faculty of Law of the University of Montreal has dedicated one day yearly called "Journée Roger Comtois", renown professors of Law are invited speakers, and lately he received the Medal of the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Wednesday February 13 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and February 14 from 9:30 to 11:00 am. The religious Mass will be held February 14 at 11:00 am at Église Notre-Dame des Neiges, located at 5366 ch. de la Côte-des-Neiges about two blocks North of Queen Mary Road, Internment will be at 12:30 pm in Notre- Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery. Donations in his memory to a Society of Research for Breathing problems will be gladly accepted.
