It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of L. Claude Mercure on the morning of June 3, he was 89 years old. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 33 years, Andrée Sauvageau. He also leaves behind his daughters from a previous marriage (late Anita Brunet) Diane Annesser (James) and Lyne McCauley (Robert); his grandchildren John and Kimberly Annesser Bachiega and Robert III, Timothy, Brian, Daniel and Sean McCauley; his great-grandchildren Nika, John-Pavel, John-Claude Annesser and Geovanni Bachiega. He also leaves behind his nieces and nephew Claude, Louise (Roland) and Paul Chartrand (Marie), and of course his relatives and many friends. L. Claude Mercure, a certified chartered accountant by profession, was well-known in the business community. He was one of the founding partners of Mercure, Béliveau & Associés. He was also president of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (1979-1980), an association he helped form for the betterment of the profession. He was named Life Member of said Association in July 1998. He also served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Fondation du Centre Hospitalier de Verdun, and for his extraordinary devotion in finding ways to improve the well-being of the center's patients, was named Member of the Governors' Club. In the beginning of his career, he worked as a young accountant at the Club de Golf Laval sur le Lac, hence his lifelong devotion to the sport. Throughout his adult life, especially after retirement and until 2012, he was a member of said Club and enjoyed playing the game here and abroad, which brought on many new and lasting friendships. Family will receive condolences on June 19 starting at 4 p.m. followed by a Ceremony at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fondation Médicale des Laurentides et des Pays d'en Haut, 50, rue Corbeil, Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, Québec J8C 1X2 or to the Société Parkinson du Québec, 1080 - 550, rue Sherbrooke west, West Tour, Montréal, Québec H3A 1B9 would be greatly appreciated.
