HECTOR SUTHERLAND Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette from Apr. 6 to Apr. 7, 2012.
SUTHERLAND, HECTOR EASDALE
1927 - 2012
Hector passed away at home on March 28 in Brockville, Ont. in his 85th year. Born in Montreal, and educated at Lower Canada College, he spent his first 50 years here, moved to Oakville for 22 years and then to Brockville in 2001. He was the very proud father of Linda, Colin (Vanessa), Anne, Brian and Jane (Shawn) and the bemused and delighted grandfather of Devon and Keith Sutherland and Lindsey and Jenna Carter. Predeceased by his wife and best friend Nancy McGill. He is survived by his sister Betty Panet-Raymond and his sister-in-law Isabel Cameron. The family would like to thank his neighbours in Country Club Place for their kindness and friendship to Hector after our mother died.
Hector was an athlete of the highest order and excelled at many sports, including golf and tennis. He was two time Canadian National Downhill Champion (1947 & 1951) and proudly represented Canada as a member of the Olympic ski team in 1948. Skiing played a large part in his life and his happiest moments were spent on the hills. A private cremation has taken place and a celebration of both Hector and Nancy's lives will be held in Montreal at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 de la Foret, Outremont, Friday, June 8 at noon
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a foundation in Nancy Sutherland's name for research into ovarian cancer c/o Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Queen's University, Kingston, ON, K7L 3N6. Ski Heil.

Sincere condolances to all the family. As a fellow Redbird Hector was agreat ski pal and sometime coach with great tips on downhill skiing technique.

On the financial councilling front Hector gave valued advice which I benefit from to this day.

Hector will be missed by his many surviving friends. As an octogenerian one looses good friends all too often.

Sincerely, Lawrie Jackson

To Betty Panet-Raymond and Isabel Cameron
Our sincere sympathies and condolences to you both as you celebrate the lives of Hector and Nancy. I have many fond memories of our earlier years growing up in Westmount together. Skiing on Westmount mountain, music lessons with Mrs Lemesurer. Red Birds & Penguins etc.I regret that I will not be attending the service this Friday in Outremont. Our prayers will be with you & the families. Love, John & Jessie

Thinking of all of you at this difficult time. Hector and I go back to LCC and likely Roslyn School days and we kept in touch fairly regularly. I know the last years without Nancy must have been pretyy lonely. He never complained and maintained that typical Hector positive attitude. We'll miss him and his phone calls just to chat.
