REID, Julyan née Fancott
Died peacefully at home amidst the love of her family on December 30, 2012 at the age of 74, after her recent diagnosis of cancer. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Tim Reid, her son Dylan and wife Molly, daughter Vanessa and partner Yitzhak, her brothers Robin and wife Caroline, Jeremy and wife Barbara, Terrill and wife Suzette, brother-in-law Patrick and wife Paula. She was beloved Auntie Julyan to many nieces, nephews and their spouses, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Born to Margaret and Edmund Fancott of Pointe Claire, Québec, Julyan lived her life with elegance, grace, keen curiosity and sharp intellect. A graduate of both McGill and Toronto, she pursued post-graduate studies at the London School of Economics and the École Pratique des Hautes Études in Paris. Julyan was a mentor and inspiration to many colleagues in the Federal and Ontario civil services where she was a pioneer for women's rights, an advocate for the environment and a leader in human resources development. Julyan was especially proud of her research team at the Canadian Advisory Council on the Status of Women and its crucial role in enshrining women's rights in Canada's Constitution. Julyan received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for contributions to Canada and the University of Toronto's Arbour Award for outstanding service.
Julyan and her family are grateful for the love and support from family, friends and former colleagues. We are also grateful to the extraordinary network of caregivers at Women's College Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, the Temmy Latner Centre and the CCAC. Donations in her memory can be sent to Women's College Hospital or Interval House.
A Celebration of Julyan will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. at the Mt Pleasant Cemetery Visitation
Centre, Toronto. Arrive by 2:30 p.m. for
Remembrances. For info: www.etouch.ca
