Rachel Welt May 1, 1916 - November 12, 13 Rachel Welt has died peacefully at her home in Fanwood, NJ. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, she worked with her family in their store until she met Frank Welt, an attorney from Elizabeth, NJ. They married in 1945 and moved to Roselle, then to Elizabeth, where they raised their son, Aaron, before moving to the house in Cranford which would be the family home for the next 53 years. Frank Welt was the lawyer for members of three generations of the Kean family, including the former governor, Thomas Kean. Rachel and Frank enjoyed their many travels, especially when they had the company of their friends and family. Rachel was always involved in community life at Temple B'nai Israel in Elizabeth, where she was a mainstay of Sisterhood and the Women's Choir. A lifelong learner, she regularly enrolled in Adult Education and art appreciation classes. Her immediate and extended family were always her priority, and she greatly enjoyed any opportunity to return to Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto to see her many relatives. She is survived by her son, Dr. Aaron G. Welt, her daughter in law, Sheila Rouslin Welt, her beloved grandson, William Welt, and her sister-in-law Tamara Shacter. She was predeceased by her brother Jack, and her other siblings and their spouses, Joseph Shecter and Sheila Udashkin, Melita and Leo Trachtenberg, Abe Shacter and Sarah Shacter-Cytryn, Bennie and Rae Schecter, William Schecter, Fanny and Israel Segal, Esther and Louis Schechter, Irving and Florence Schecter, and Miriam and Merrill Spiegel. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Rachel's last days were made greatly more comfortable by the efforts of Sharon Silvera, Dr. Bernard Toro-Echague, Dina Barakh, Gentiva Hospice, Dina Barakh, and Annette Lalgee.
