AHMAD, Jaleel
Professor Emeritus of Concordia University, Economics Department, passed away in the morning of Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Montreal General Hospital. He was born in Northern India, beloved son of the late Habiba Khatoon and Jameel Ahmad, the elder brother of the late Prof. Sohail Ahmad. He is survived by his younger brother, Prof. Aquiel Ahmad, sisters-in-law, Prof. Shadbano Ahmad, Joyce Ahmad; nieces Maureen and Soophia, nephews Danyal and Saif, and friend Prof. Elizabeth Henrik. He completed his studies at the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, at the University of Pittsburgh, and Ph.D. at MIT Cambridge. His teaching and research career included Harvard, McGill, and as visiting professor at universities in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, India, Ford Foundation Professor at Fudan University in Shanghai, and several European universities. He was a POSCO Research Fellow at the East- West Center, Honolulu. He served as consultant to international organizations (UNCTAD, "Group of Experts") to the UN in Geneva, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Washington; the National Energy Board , North-South Institute in Ottawa; and other international organizations OECD, UNIDO, CIDA. He published several books, chapters in books, large number of articles and papers in refereed journals. Family, close friends, colleagues will say their goodbye to him on Saturday, January 25, 2014 between 3:00-4:00 PM at Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd., Montreal.
