Just yesterday, we knew that Chris passed away! We were really sad about the news.
We will never forget his kindness and warm welcoming every time we see him at Amélio's. He was so kind to our daughter, an old costumer since she was 3 years old, now she is eleven! We offer our sincere condolences to his family and his brother George.

It's been a very long time but I never forgot what a nice man Mr. Scodras was. Mr. and Mrs. Scodras, Leah and Chris were so good to me when I was young that my appreciation for them has lasted my lifetime. I was very sad to hear about this loss. I wish you all peace and happiness in your lives. I know that he will be watching over you now and that everything great about him lives on with you.
Sincerely yours,
Diane McAleer (nee Pappas)

My wife and I learned of Chris's death the very day it happened, when we were visiting Amelio's on one of our countless visits over the years.

When our pet waitress discreetly - and very sadly - announced the news, it cast such a pall over the proceedings that we not only lost our appetite, but for the first time in 25 years forgot to leave a tip and took most of our dinner home.

Chris was as much a Montreal landmark as the restaurant he helped to create. We console ourselves with the fact that he was able to kick up his heels in recent months, particularly with his second (rather more successful) trip to China, and that he went out with a proverbial bang.

We'll miss his sardonic humour (not least when focussed on local politics) and his famous garlic bread, which always sneaked its way onto our table gratis when we weren't looking.

To his wife and family, to say nothing of his brother, the warmest of sympathies from two old-timers, who courted and almost married from Amelio's.

As our waitress remarked at the time, "The show must go on", and so it shall, but I devoutly hope it includes an amiable, benevolent and twinkly ghost of whom we were both very fond.

My sincere condolences to the family on your loss. Your husband, dad and grandfather was such a nice, warm and kind man. Always a warm welcome and a good-natured joke on my many visits to Amelios over the years. I hope beautiful memories of happy family times spent together will help you through this sad and difficult period.

Very sorry for your loss Chris & Maria, Leah and Aristia. Mr. Scodras never failed to bring a smile to my face throughout my days at Loyola with Chris, as a supportive Dad to our Peewee hockey team in Dollard and as a master restauranteur at Amelio's during our weekly Friday 'date night' visits when my wife and I were in the early stages of our romance. He always paid a visit to our table to crack a joke and a complimentary garlic bread seemed to always make its way to our table. We'll miss you Chris!
