AMAR, David
January 21, 1918 – May 15, 2016
We are sad to announce the passing of David Amar, devoted husband of the late Esther Yvonne Levy (deceased March 27, 2010). A father to four grateful children, Stella, Jack, Joëlle and Michel. A teacher, musician and poetry-lover, he was an accomplished, generous, proud and fiercely independent man, who instilled in his family a respect for knowledge and a passion for music that he passed on to his eight grandchildren, Alexandre, Émilie, David, Julien, Charles, Monique, Jacob and Madelaine, who will miss him dearly. We will never forget the kindness of Elaine Gaertner – whom he loved as a daughter – and Rose, Tamar and Victor Levy whom we could always count on when we needed them. Our thanks to the remarkable nurses, doctors and staff at the Jewish General Hospital's Palliative Care Unit for making his final weeks as gentle and dignified for him as they were effortless for his family. Such remarkable, compassionate people. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Wednesday, May 18 at 12:00 noon. Burial at the Farband Labour Zionist Organization Section, Kehal Israel Cemetery, D.D.O. Donations in David's memory may be made to the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, (514) 340-8251.
