I was unaware of his passing until today. I knew him personally when he was working at the Sir Winston Churchill Pub on Crescent Street in Montreal back in the late 1970's . Very sad to hear that he died so young.

My sympathies to the family. In loving memory of a wonderful person. I have many years of memories at the pub and with friends gathering at your home. We said we would stay in touch but as life goes that was not meant to be. You touched so many peoples lives and will be sadly missed. You will be in my heart forever. Rest well My friend.

Just learned by chance of Steve's passing. I have been living in Europe since graduating college, so I have not followed, and did not know about Steve's after university sport's achievements but I can well imagined that he would have become great. I went to high school with him and played on the same high school football team. I have not and shall not ever forget him for the life lessons he unknowingly passed on to me. I remember in Sophomore English class and the preparations for the class play. Steve was in the play (had a lead role), but once, when the teacher read out an after school hour for one of the rehearsals, Steve raised hand and said he had football practice, so could not attend. The English teacher, I can still remember her face, she appeared startled and she blurted out with a certain dose of apparent disbelief (which she really shouldn't have done) You! FOOTBALL?! You have to realize that Steve, at the time, wasn't fully grown and hadn't yet started lifting weights and because of his very soft spoken nature, he did not appear at all like a typical highschool sports man little did she know. During football practice, Steve would always put in 150% effort, unlike many of us who would often try to find ways to avoid the more strenuous exercises or scrimmages with the senior varsity team. Steve no. He would always volunteer to participate in the end of practice scrimmages with the Varsity team. Note, it is very painful playing against seniors twice your size and strength, but you could see he loved every minute of the experience. I truly envied his courage and perseverance - and this was a life lesson for me. After high school I lost contact with Steve, although like Steve, I also went to Rutgers, but in another campus in another city. I knew Steve played on the Rutgers football team, but I did not follow much the news of the Rutgers football team. I remember meeting Steve once or twice during those college years. I remember once he told me he was having some problems with his knee. If I remember correctly, he said he would stay more or less bed-ridden during the week, receive private lessons, and then before football game day, he was given a shot of cortisone, so he would be able to play the day's game. I didn't think this was very sustainable, and in my mind I thought he would never make it to the pros with a knee like that little did I know. Thank you Steve. My condolences to his surviving relatives and friends. Richard Pepe

Mr Ferrughelli was an honorary speaker at our graduation back in 1975. His speech was such an inspiration, that I was motivated by to pursue my studies further and became one of a few women, at the time, in a male dominated career.
I had the honor and pleasure to meet him a few years ago on a chance encounter and I related to him how his speech had motivated me to believe in myself, study and work hard and how it gave me the drive to realize many of my childhood dreams and he was very touched.
My sincerest condolences to his family, friends and Alouettes family. Montreal mourns the loss of a great player and a even greater man who inspired many students of the class of 75. May his soul rest in peace.
