Guy Huffman Obituary

Guy Huffman HICKORY Guy Lawson Huffman, 86, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2011 at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born on March 15, 1925 in Burke County, he was the son of the late Wade Huffman and Isabelle Smart Huffman. Mr. Huffman was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hickory, where he was a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, Deacon and Trustee of the Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and had retired from U.S. Postal Service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca June Butler Huffman; and two brothers: Albert Huffman, Sr., Osborne Huffman. He is survived by a son, Larry Huffman and wife Brenda of Hickory; daughter, Kathy Huffman Isenhour and husband, Jerry of Hickory; two brothers: Calvin Leroy Huffman of Connelly Springs, Wade M. Huffman and wife Marina of Hickory; sister, Elizabeth H. Caruso of Valdese; sister-in-law, Winson Huffman of Valdese; grandchildren: Scott Huffman and wife Carman of Cullowhee, Bryan Huffman and wife Kellie of Durham, Carrie Isenhour Dunn and husband Kyle of Canton, Ga., John Andrew Isenhour of Chapel Hill; three great-granchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Calvary Baptist Church in Hickory with the Rev. Bert Dixon and the Rev. William Marr officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #48. The family will receive friends today, May 10, 2011 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory. His Sunday School Class will be honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Rd., Newton, NC 28658 or Calvary Baptist Church, 1823 3rd Ave. S.E., Hickory N.C. 28602. The family would like to give their sincere thanks to Mr. Huffman's caregivers and the staff of Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Our condolences on the passing of a good man who exemplified the Christian walk in every word and every deed. What a blessing and a privilege to attend church with him for these many years. It is hard to imagine Calvary Baptist without him. But he is HOME now in the presence of the Lord he loved and served.
