Ruby Setzer Obituary

Mrs. Ruby Mae Estes Setzer, 93, of Lenoir, died Monday, July 12, 2009, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born Nov. 2, 1915, in Caldwell County, Mrs. Setzer was a daughter of the late Azor and Texie Clarke Estes and the wife of the late Odell S. Setzer. Mrs. Setzer was a charter member of Mulvale Baptist Church and a member of College Avenue Baptist Church. A graduate of Gardner-Webb Nursing School she was a retired nurse from Broughton Hospital. She is survived by two sons, Joe B. Setzer of Kings Creek and Odell S. Setzer and his wife, Malona, of Lenoir; seven grandchildren, Joe Setzer Jr. of Pleasanton, Calif., Jason Setzer of Lenoir, Jill Arnold of Raleigh, Joan Hoyt of Holly Springs, Jeffrey Setzer of Lenoir, Jacob Setzer of Charlotte and Stacy Setzer of Lenoir; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephew, cousins and friends. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Evans Funeral Service with the Rev. Ed Lawing officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Following the graveside service, a time of celebration of Mrs. Setzer's life will be held at Evans Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Evans Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Setzer, Stacy Setzer, Jacob Setzer, Jason Setzer, Joseph B. Setzer Jr., Allen Hoyt and Steve Arnold. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
