William "Bill" Connelly MORGANTON William "Bill" Connelly, 88, of Morganton, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at his residence. Born in Burke County, Dec. 29, 1924, he was the son of the late Charles Alvin Connelly and Essie Maud Greene Connelly. Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church. Bill is survived by his daughters, Anne Gulley and husband, Paul, of Elkin and Kay Sanborn and husband, Tim, of Huntersville; grandchildren, Sarah Gulley, Ben Gulley and wife, Taleisha Bowen, Will Gulley, Hannah Sanborn and fianc, Eric Panicco and Molly Sanborn; a sister-in-law, Miriam Connelly; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Joan Webb Connelly; brothers, Ed, Rob, Jim, Jack and Joe Connelly; and sisters, Vivian Moody and Sarah White. Bill grew up in Morganton and graduated from Morganton High School. Following graduation from Wake Forest College in 1949, Bill went to work for Owens-Illinois in 1950, starting as a stock boy and eventually becoming a vice-president. He retired for the first time in 1982. In 1983, he and Joan moved back to Morganton where he began a second career as owner of Professional Office Supply. It was here that he re-entered the community life of Morganton once more with great interest and love for the town, its history and its citizens, both human and canine. The family would like to thank Cathy Spann for the years at Professional Office Supply, Amber Hart and other Better Living Homecare caretakers, and his extraordinarily special caretaker and friend these last 14 months, Donna Miller. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dr. John Fowler and Chip Connelly, of Tampa, Fla., a cherished nephew. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 N. King St., Morganton, NC 28655, Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690, or to Burke County Friends for Animals, P.O. Box 1884, Morganton, NC 28680.
