Herman Duckworth MORGANTON Herman Marshall Duckworth went to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, following a period of declining health. He was born in Burke County, April 12, 1927, and was a son of the late Marshall Lee Duckworth and Sallie May Mace Duckworth. Mr. Duckworth served with the U.S. Army for six years and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He retired from Broughton Hospital with over 32 years of service and was also a former employee of Great Lakes Carbon Corporation. Herman was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon for many years. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Whise-nant and husband, Wayne, of Morganton; granddaughters, Wendy Cook and Shanda Stillwell; great-grand-children, Dylan Cook and Chase Stillwell; and a sister, Faye Rhyne, of Valdese. In addition to his mother, Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Carswell Duckworth; his son, Robert Duckworth; brothers, Stanley, Glen, John, and Ruben Duckworth; and sisters, Annie Ree Epley, Ruth Bollinger, Azalee Duckworth, and Margaret Lambert. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with the Dr. Dewey Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. At other times the family will be at home on Melvin Propst Drive. Herman's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Grace Heights for the compassion and loving care shown to him.
