Robert Walker Obituary
He was born in Lorain, Ohio on May 18, 1928 and raised in Amherst, graduating from Amherst Central High School.
Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War where before returning home he contracted Polio. He was employed at Ohio Bureau of Employment Services in Sandusky for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1987 as an office manager. Bob was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst. He was active with the church council and served as the secretary, he also taught Sunday school. Bob was an active member of the Amherst Jaycees, and previously served as President, Vice President and Secretary. He was also a member and Vice President of the North West OBES, the Disabled American Veterans of Lorain, and the Amherst American Legion Post #118.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Walker (nee: Witte); his nieces and nephews Marcia Malz (nee: Walker), Terry Walker, Darrel Kurth, Duane Kurth, Mark Muska, and Scott Muska.
He was preceded in death by his brother George E. Walker; his sisters Dorothy Kurth, Sandra Muska; and his parents George W. and Kathryn Dorothy Walker (nee: Nahm).
Friends may call Wednesday, December 26, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Mark Pemberton, pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ of Amherst will officiate. Full Military Honors will be performed by the Amherst Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Crownhill Cemetery, Amherst.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Peter United Church of Christ; 582 Church Street, Amherst, OH 44001; Animal Protective League, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035 or the Lorain County charity of the donors choice.

I had the honor of knowing Bob and Betty, as a friend. I was happy to see Bob before his passing, although it seemed to soon to see him go. The stories he told me were so interesting to hear. I will miss you buddy and check on Betty frequently. Now you are at peace, thank you for introducing me to such a great loving family that you were blessed with. KKS

Dear Betty, I was saddened to learn of Bob's death. He was a shining example to all of us, never complaining, but living a full and exemplary life. I regret we can't be at the funeral; we'll be in Kentucky next week. Please know that Connie and I will have you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. "Skip" Ward
