Charley
Williams
LORAIN - Charley Williams age 79, of Lorain passed away Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his residence under the care of New Life Hospice. He was born on July 14, 1933 to General Nelson and Stella (nee Marcum) Williams in Trosper, Kentucky.
He was a 1952 graduate of Cumberland High School in Kentucky. Charley enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1953 at Fort Mead, Maryland. He served his Country during the Korean War at the rank of Corporal and was honorably discharged in 1955 in Mainz, Germany.
Charley made his career in the building and manufacturing trades. He was employed by Tappan Manufacturing from 1968 until 1981. In 1981 he began working for Bradco (Wickes Lumber) and retired in 2007 after 26 years of service.
A member of Christian Life Church in Lorain for many years he currently was attending Abundant Life Christian Center in Elyria. Charley loved to travel, play the guitar, fish and read the Bible. Spending time with his grandchildren brought him much pleasure and enjoyment.
Charley is survived by his wife of 56 years, Delores M. (nee Hardwick); sons, David C. Williams, of Birmingham, OH, James L. and Margaret (nee Blankenship) Williams, of Berlin Hts., OH, Paul A. and Penny (nee Elliott) Williams, of Wakeman, OH and Craig M. Williams, of Lorain; grandchildren, Matthew P., Adam C., Hannah E., Rachel A., Emily A., Nicholas C., Brandon J., Eric T. and Kelsey O. Williams; brother, Nelson Williams Jr., of Barbourville, KY; sisters, Mary A. Curaczi, of Corbin, KY, Martha E. (Otto) Gambrel, of Elyria, OH and Linda Sue Messer, of Elyria, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, General Nelson and Stella Williams; brothers, Glen, and Kenneth M. Williams.
The Williams family will receive friends on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 2:00- 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Rev. James Justice, of Firelands Community Church and Rev. Jerry Harper, of Abundant Life Christian Center will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
