Rita M. Behnke (nee Kiser), of Elyria, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 surrounded by her family following a short illness. She was born on Aug. 7, 1930 in Elyria to Gilbert and Edith Kiser. She was a 1948 graduate of Elyria High School.
Rita was an active member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Elyria where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, Our Lady of Peace Circle, and Couples Club. Her hobbies included playing golf, bowling, playing cards, doing puzzles, traveling, ceramics and gardening. Most of all, she enjoyed being with family and friends.
Rita is survived by her husband of 60 years, Sterling "Shorty;" daughter, Victoria (Mark) Lesner, of Amherst, Ohio; son, Richard (Carol) Behnke, of Elyria, Ohio; two grandsons, Richard Jr. and Gregory Behnke, of Elyria, Ohio; sister, Barbara Smith Spencer; sisters-in-law, Karen Kiser and Judy Swaggerty, both of Wellington, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Edith (nee Beam) Kiser; brothers, Thomas and Donald Kiser; grandparents, Jacob and Josephine Kiser and Frank and Lydia Beam.
Friends may call at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria, Ohio on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. The St. Vincent DePaul Altar & Rosary society will recite the rosary at 3:45 p.m. Closing prayers will be Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Church, 41925 North Ridge Rd, Elyria, Ohio, Rev. Fr. Donald Dunson, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio.
Memorial contributions in Rita's memory can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Church, 41925 North Ridge Rd., Elyria, Ohio.
