Roy Burgess Obituary

NORTH RIDGEVILLE - Roy E. Burgess, 89, formerly of North Ridgeville, passed away Monday, July 15, 2013 at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange following a long illness. He was born March 25, 1924 in Cumberland County, Tennessee.
Mr. Burgess had been a resident of Lorain County for many years and resided in North Ridgeville most of that time. He was a veteran and served with the US Army's 563rd Anti-Aircraft Battalion during WWII. Mr. Burgess was employed as a machinist/job setter at Ridge Tool in Elyria for over 40 years and retired in 1986. He attended the East Broad Street Church of Christ in Elyria. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, hunting and traveling to Tennessee.
Mr. Burgess is survived by two daughters, Renee Pavelko (Steven) of Wellington and Bonita Nelson (the Late Douglas) of Westlake; three sons, Vernon Burgess (Carol) of Elyria, Everett Burgess (Beverly) of Oberlin and Randy Burgess of Lorain; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and by several half sisters and brothers, including Joyce Croft of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma (nee Glasscock) in 2007; two sisters, Gladys Williams and Marie Wyatt; and by one brother, Beryl Burgess.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 4 to 8p.m. at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Pastor Harold Reddick will officiate the service. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon where members from the honor guard of VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville, will conduct full military honors.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
