Board, Minnie* - Lorain  
Minnie Board, 74, peaceably passed away on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at home. She was born in Opelika, Alabama, on Nov. 5, 1940. Minnie was retired from the Neighbor House Association where she served as a cook. Minnie will be sadly missed by her sister, Elizabeth Henderson, Lorain; aunt, Tip Thomas, Elyria; sons, Calvin (Penny) Board, Tennessee, William (Ruby) Board, Lorain, Timothy Board & Bruce (Ella) Board of Elyria; daughters, Audrey (Perry) Young, Elyria, Ruby Evans, Michigan, and Beverly Board, Cleveland; nephew; Sim Henderson Jr.; niece, Elbony Henderson and her son Aiden Jones; goddaughter, Teresa Young; and also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, and dear friends. Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, John and Carrie Owens; husband, Oswald Board; brother, James Owens; and sons, Ozzie and Aundra Board. Cope, LaVaughn Kepler* - Wellington  
WELLINGTON – LaVaughn Kepler Cope, 94, of Wellington, died at Blue Ridge Christian Home at 10:00 pm on August 20, 2015. She was born on September 9th, 1920 in Wellington, Ohio. LaVaughn graduated from Wellington High School and later attended Ohio University, Newport Rhode Island Business School and Lorain County Community College computer courses. She was a real estate saleswoman and real estate broker for 30 years. Mrs. Cope managed the Village of Wellington's Income Tax Office for 10 years, was the Secretary to the Village of Wellington's Zoning Board and Planning Commission, and was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. She is survived by son, Robert J. Cope (Erin), Catharpin, Va.; grandsons Sean Stuart Cope (Anna) Washington, D.C., Troy Kepler Cope (Nicole) Ormond Beach, Fl.; great grandson Cameron Kepler Cope; sister-in-law Betty Faus Kepler; 9 nieces and nephews, plus great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Lt. Edward Cunningham, U.S. Air Force, missing in action over Africa in 1942, parents William A. and Florence (née Cave) Kepler, daughter-in-law Laura Stuart Cope, sister Margery Kepler Young, and brothers Harold Kepler and Russell Kepler. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, August 29, from 10 until the time of services beginning at 11 a.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Wellington. Dunker, Richard P* - Avon  
AVON – Richard P. Dunker, 92, of Avon, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2015 at The Woods On French Creek Health Center, Avon. He was born Sept. 17, 1922 in Cleveland, and has lived in Avon for 70 years. He worked in the plastic molding industry many years, but retired as the City of Avon's first full time building inspector. He was a "Jack Of All Trades" and a master of many of them. He earned a Private Pilot's License and rebuilt and restored a 1946 Stinson airplane at his home in Avon. He enjoyed travel and photography, but truly enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Avon. He is survived by 4 children: Richard H. (Nancy) Dunker, Deborah (Joe) Janosik, Denise (Art) Styranka, and Diane (Jeff) Robertson; Grandchildren: Megan (Greg), Joseph, Sarah, Doug, Becca, Tyler, Chelsea, Luke, and Joey; sister: Rita Abfall. He was preceded in death by his wife: Doris (nee Wearsch) Dunker; son: Doug Dunker; Brother: Clifford; Sister: Henrietta Straub; Father: Henry Dunker; Mother and Step-father: Sophia (nee Haas) and Frank Dunker. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Sat., August 29, at 10 A.M. at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2640 Stoney Ridge Road, Avon. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon with military honors conducted by the U.S. Army. Guffey, Carl C.*  
LORAIN – Carl C. Guffey, age 72, of Lorain, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2015 at The Willows at Bellevue following a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Lorain, he was born on November 3, 1942 to the late John and Marjorie Guffey. He attended Lorain High School. Carl served in the US Navy. For many years, Carl worked for the Lorain post office as a mail carrier. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lorain. He enjoyed cooking, dancing and listening to music. He is survived by his daughter, Barbie (Russell) Cook , of Bellevue; his grandchildren, Anna Leck, Dustin Leck and Savannah Puder; 1 great-granddaughter, Eloise Puder; and a brother Robert (Lauria) Guffey, of CT. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 27th from 5:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Guice, Alfred Leonard* - Lorain  
LORAIN – Alfred Leonard Guice, 66, of Lorain, Ohio passed away Sunday, August 23, 2015 in Cleveland Clinic unexpectedly. Mr. Guice was born October 12, 1948 in Lorain, where he was a lifelong resident. He was a United States Army Vietnam War Veteran. He worked at US Steel in the Roll Mill until he retired after 32 years of service. He was member of the US Steel workers union local 1104. Alfred enjoyed gardening, shooting pool, and restoring cars. Alfred will be sadly missed by his wife of 29 years Angela M. Guice (nee Crisp), sons Desmond Guice Julian Williams, and Noah M. Betzing; daughters Angela Bivins, Samantha (Jaime) Price, and Vanessa (Louis) Soto; 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; one brother Albert L (Leslie ) Guice ; three sisters Cynthia Lois Guice , Betty Jamison, and Wanda Magruder ,many nieces and nephews and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Mr. Guice was preceded in death by his parents Alonzo and Louise Guice, brother Alonzo Guice, and sisters Shirley Dalton. Hunt, James* - Wellington  
WELLINGTON – James Hunt, 88, of Wellington, died unexpectedly Thursday, August 27, 2015. On January 15, 1927, James was born to the late Charles T. and Lula (nee Deniston) Hunt in Lick Creek, KY. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served aboard the USS John Land. James retired from General Motors Fisher Body Plant after 30 plus years. James was a Deacon and active member of Christ Community Church in Wellington. Always thinking of others, he was a faithful blood donor for many years. He greatly enjoyed being outside and many of his favorite hobbies happened outdoors including fishing, target shooting at the range, golfing, taking walks and tending his flower and vegetable gardens. James also liked bowling and his morning breakfasts in town. Survivors include his daughters, Sandra (Mike) Adams, Judith Rhonda (Steve) O'Neal, and Janet (Alan) Smith, all of Wellington; grandchildren, Beverly Stephens, Michelle Orsik, Matthew Adams, Jeffrey Adams, Christopher Adams Russ Maze, Jason Maze, Jessica Sousa, Terry Goble Jr., Brandy Meyer, Brook White, Veronica "Roni" Jacobs, Audrey Diller, James Goble, and Emily Kirsch; 29 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. James was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Dorothy; great grandson, Gage Meyer; brothers, Clarence, Lawrence, Carl and Delmo Hunt and sister, Ertha Abshire. Visitation will be Sunday, August 30 from 2-5 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington, where funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Krieg, Donald*  
GROSSE ILE, MI – Donald Krieg, 84, of Grosse Ile, Michigan died Thursday August 20, 2015 at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital after a short illness. Don was born in Lorain, Ohio at Saint Joseph's Hospital on March 17, 1931, the son of William Krieg and Mildred (nee Berry) Krieg , both of Lorain Ohio. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1949 and earned an associate aeronautical degree with honors from Kent State and Case Western Reserve in Ohio. He served two years in the US Army, including one year in Korea, ascending to the rank of Staff Sergeant while earning the United Nations Service Medal and two bronze stars. He was an accomplished wrestler and boxer through his early 30's. Don was employed by BF Goodrich in Avon Lake, Ohio for 13 years and the Ford Motor Company as a Process Engineer in Lorain, Ohio for 10 years, spending 15 additional years in the Ford Pilot Plant in Dearborn, MI where he participated in and led major new car model launch projects at various locations throughout North America. He earned private, instrument, commercial and other pilot ratings while flying many hundreds of hours. He was a resident of Grosse, Ile MI for 39 years and an active member of the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church. and greatly enjoyed dancing throughout his life, often to the joy and entertainment of many. Don and wife Shirley were members of the Grosse Ile, MI Yacht Club and members of The Islanders. They were also members of American Legion in Arizona, where they wintered five months each year for 16 yrs. Don had a great love for nature, music and dance, frequently found feeding his many critters in his large yard in Michigan, listening to his vast musical library, and entertaining many with Shirley and Don's masterful dance. In his later years, Don frequently donated his time and energy to maintaining and improving the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife Shirley M. (nee Moore) Krieg, Don is survived by sons Terry L. Krieg of Scottsdale, Arizona and Perry L. Krieg of Ballwin, Missouri, five grandchildren - Ethan, Jessica, Lauren, Michael and Valerie, and several nieces and nephews in Ohio. Donald was preceded in death by his grandparents Oscar and Lottie Berry of Lorain, OH, parents William H. and Mildred R. (nee Berry) Krieg, who moved from Ohio to Arizona in the 1950's, his brothers William and Harvey Krieg, and his son Berry W Krieg, all from Lorain, Ohio. Graveside services will be held on Monday, Auugust 31, 2015 at noon in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park with full military honors provided by the Lorain Honor Guard. Leshinski, Jan M*  
VERMLION – Jan M. Leshinski (nee Gorbach), 70, of Vermilion, died Monday, August 24, 2015 at Stein Hospice after a lengthy illness. She was born August 17, 1945 in Sandusky and had been a life-long resident of Vermilion Twp. Jan devoted her life to family and helping others. She worked and volunteered as a social worker for Lorain County Parent Infant Enrichment where she impacted the lives of many children. With regard to her work, Jan said that the smiles she received from "the little people" were her greatest reward. Jan enjoyed cooking, swimming, stained glass, nature, gardening, yoga, and being a foster parent to several children. Most of all, Jan lived for her family. She was compassionate, dedicated and caring -- as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She had a remarkable positive attitude. Jan never had a bad day. Yet at the same time, she was the strongest person we know. Those who knew her well, understand. Jan loved the simple things about life and always knew how to make others feel good. She was truly one of God's angels. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ronald Leshinski of Vermilion; mother, Melba "Poody" (nee Knott) Walker of Vermilion; daughters, Denise (Bill) Ross of Columbus, OH, Doreen Collins of Monument, CO, Dianne Leshinski (Stephen) of Traverse City, MI, Sarah Schaffer of Anderson, SC; sons, Ron F. (Alejandra) Leshinski of Houston, TX and Rich (Melanie) Timko of Hillsdale, NJ; 7 grandchildren: Rachael, Sarah, Leah Collins, Stevie and Ellery Tooker, Alexander Timko, and Alexander Leshinski; and brother, Richard Gorbach. She was preceded in death by her father, Myron Woodarski; step-father, Richard Gorbach; daughter, Debra Leshinski. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 2 pm until the time of the service at 5 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion OH. Lopez Sr., Abelino "Al"*  
LORAIN – Abelino "Al" Lopez Sr., 96, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Avon Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility, Avon, following a lengthy illness. Born Nov. 10, 1918 in Rockdale, Texas, he came to Lorain in 1947. Al served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked as a car spotter in the screening station of the coke plant at Lorain Works US Steel for 33 ½ years where he was known as the "Royal Hawaiian", retiring in 1983. Al was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, the Guadalupe Society of the church, and the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104. He enjoyed traveling, big band music and dancing. His life philosophy was family unity, always make the best of it and "stick together". He is survived by his sons, Fred (Shirley) and Ruben (Marilyn) both of Lorain, Richard (Lucy) of N. Ridgeville; daughters, Gloria Gonzales of Russia Township, and Felisa (Tom) Shannon of Lorain; grandchildren, Fred Lopez Jr., Jerry Lopez, Kathy Lopez, Joseph (Len) Gonzales Jr., Barbara (Al) McConihe, Tony Lopez, Alana (Andy) Wourms, Lisa (Roy) Moye, Michelle Lopez, Aaron (Heather) Lopez, Bryan (Denise) Lopez, Adam Lopez, Alexandria (Matthew) Michalski, Callie Lopez, Jim Shannon and Sam Shannon; 24 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margarita (nee Villarreal) in 1990; parents, Salome and Felipa (nee Luna) Lopez; a son, Abelino in 2014; and brothers, Robert, Salome Jr. and Concepcion; and a granddaughter, Veronica Lopez-Cox The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 – 7:00 pm in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 8:45 am in the funeral home followed my mass at 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. William Thaden, pastor will officiate.
