Gantz, Janet* - Elyria
LORAIN - Janet (nee Kurucz) Gantz, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home into the loving, caring eyes of her family on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014. She was born in Torrington, Conn., on June 24, 1918. As a true pioneer of 12 children, she left her parents during the Depression years and moved to Lorain in the early 1940s and began working for the Western Automatic Co. Her assistance to the family at this time was a guarantee that they would make it her and they moved to Lorain to join her in 1943. She met and married her loving husband, John Gantz. They were companions, best friends and business partners for almost a golden anniversary. She was a female entrepreneur in partnering with John to own and successfully operate two eateries, the Gin Mill and the Dinner Bell. Her passion and success for cooking did not stop with her business, Janet was always cooking up something, whether it was for her family, a wedding, Mom and Pop (her parents) every week or cooking cabbage and noodles sold at St. Vincent DePaul Church at weekly bingo. She lived her Catholic religion with her actions and words and was an active parishioner/volunteer of over 50 years at St. Vincent DePaul Church. She loved cooking gardening, reading, bargain hunting, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her brother, Robert, of Proctorville and sister, Irene Strong. She was delicately cared for and loved by her great-nephew, Stephen Fuller and his family. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gantz; her parents, Joseph and Veronica (nee Bucz) Kurucz; her sisters, Mary Putt, Wilma Szabo, and Helen Toth; and brothers, Joseph, John, Andres, Frank, Michael, and Paul. Her family will receive friends at the Wyers-Bollinger Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Road, Sheffield Township, on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
