Simpson, Betty Parker* - Elyria
Betty Parker Simpson passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 21, 2015. Betty graduated with honors from The Ohio State University with a degree in elementary education. After graduation, she taught second grade at Amherst and later was an active member of the Avon Lake PTA and headed the Family Services of Lorain County. She dedicated her life to uplifting others and wrote an inspirational newsletter called Second Spring. She had a lifelong interest in art and design which inspired her career in silversmithing and jewelry making. Betty participated in many art shows, and was a faculty member at Baycrafters. A precise, orderly person by nature, Betty found in jewelry making a blending of all of her interests - literature, religion, family, love of beauty in nature, craftsmanship, and design. Betty traveled extensively, doing research for her second newsletter The Jade Collector. She was known as "the Jade Lady" because of her expertise in jade and was a guest lecturer at the Gemological Institute of America in California. After retiring, she dedicated her passion for design and sacred spaces to her garden, where she created a wildlife sanctuary. Betty is survived by her husband John, her daughters Lynn Simpson Vasiloff and Annie Peteya, her grandchildren Mara Banfield, Catherine Wright, Ishani Peteya, and Nathan Peteya, and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Gertrude Parker, her stepfather Richard Prucha, and her sister Carol West. A memorial service for Betty will be private. Arrangements are in the care of Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Elyria. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
