SOUTH AMHERST - Ann Mary Amenhauser (nee: Vargo), 93 years of age, and a resident of South Amherst, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at Lake Pointe Health Center in Lorain.
She was born December 25, 1916 in South Amherst, Ohio where she lived until moving to the Gardens of French Creek Assisted Living in Avon, where she resided for the past four years.
Ann was a loving housewife and mother, a role she cherished. She was a member of Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in South Amherst. Ann served as the past president and secretary of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was the past president of the South Amherst School Parent Teachers Association and for sixteen years she managed the school cafeteria for the South Amherst school system. Ann also served as a committee lady with the South Amherst Girl Scouts and Brownies. In her spare time Ann loved to quilt.
Survivors include her daughters Shirley Kerekes of Elyria, Sharon O'Neil of South Amherst, Carol McBennett and her husband Patrick of Birmingham; granddaughters, Linda Kerekes, Brenda Moony (Sam), Deidra Kerekes, Gina Knarich, Carla Hribal (David), Patty Reisinger (Ray), Kim Sterna; ten great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; her brother John Vargo (Rosella) of Vermilion.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years Harvey Amenhauser on April 30, 1999; her sisters Betty Tirpak, Helen Zukowski and Emma Fazey; and by her parents John Vargo, Elizabeth Silagi (nee: Schmitt) and step father Steve Silagi; and son in law Bruce O'Neil.
Friends may call Sunday, November 14, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:30p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Rosary services will be held Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 15, 2010 beginning with closing prayers at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. from Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church; 333 South Lake Street, South Amherst. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
