BIRMINGHAM - Betty J. Bechstein, age 91, of Birmingham, died Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Kingston of Vermilion. She was born on July 8, 1920 in Elyria and has been a Birmingham resident most of her life and also had lived in Zephyrhills FL. She taught sewing at Sears, was Head Cook for the Birmingham School and also worked for Florence Twp. She served as a 4-H Leader for the Birmingham Homemakers, was a member and Past Matron of the Wakeman Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Zephyrhills and the Birmingham United Methodist Church. She was an avid quilter, seamstress, cake decorator, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra (Les) Barckert, of Birmingham, her grandchildren, Michele Finnegan-Descareza, of Elyria, Lynda Barckert-Page, of Chicago, Michael Finnegan, of RI, Mark Finnegan, of Elyria, Thomas Finnegan, of Birmingham, Debbie Driskoll, of KY, and Walter Bechstein, of KY and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Walter J. Bechstein, her parents Arthur and Ethel (Currier) Buswell, two sons, Walter and Jack Bechstein, a brother Robert Buswell and sisters Arlene Buswell, Eva Hale, and Margaret Gailey.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday January 7, 2012 at 1:00 pm. Pastor Dick Kretchmar will be officiating.
The service will be held at the Birmingham United Methodist Church 15018 South Street, in Birmingham.
