LORAIN – Bonnie Georgia Garlitz, 65 of Lorain, Ohio died Sunday, April 20, 2014 following an unexpected illness. She was born on February 22, 1949 in Lorain where she was a life long resident. Bonnie was a 1968 graduate of Lorain High School. For over thirty five years she was employed for Lorain Products. Bonnie was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Lorain where she was a member of the Marian Guild and a pierogi volunteer for countless hours. She frequented the church's Perpetual Chapel. Bonnie enjoyed bus trips and games of chance. She was an outstanding baker and cook; she loved 'hostessing' in her home where she shared her delicious food. Bonnie loved watching and 'calling in' for 'American Idol.' She had a passion for attending many community activities, including the Lorain International Festival and the Lorain County Fair. Bonnie loved all kinds of music, being on the 'go,' shopping and socializing.
She is survived by her brother, Gilbert G. (Iris) Garlitz of South Amherst, Ohio, her sisters, Inez L. (Joe) Oberle of Lorain and Fayann Garlitz of Dayton, Ohio, nephew, DJ, nieces Amanda, Greta and Sarah and numerous cousins, uncles and aunts.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Faye G. (nee: Crowe) in 2008 and Paul E. Garlitz in 1977.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 4 PM until 7 PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052 where prayers will be said at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 25, 2014 followed by mass at 11 AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1339 East Erie Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44052 with The Rev. Fr. Richard E. Hudak, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst.
