Chad Thomas Cantu

Chad Thomas Cantu LORAIN — Chad Thomas Cantu, 43, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday April 27, 2013 due to complications of juvenile diabetes. Chad was a beloved and wonderful son to his mother Barbara Cantu Deidrick (Harold) of Lorain and his father Thomas Cantu (Marlene) of Henderson NV; devoted and loving father to Gabriella Cantu and Victoria Cantu, both of Lorain, thoughtful and caring to his extended family of brothers, Brian, James and David Cantu, David and Daniel Deidrick and sisters Nicole Jones, Michelle Gibbs and Erica Deidrick. Chad is also survived by a very special aunt and uncle Debbie and David Pierce of Vermilion and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins. Chad attended St. Mary School, Lorain High School, Lorain County Community College and graduated from the Cleveland Police Academy. He was currently employed at Thistledown Race Track and his past employment included Mercy Regional Medical Center, EMH Regional Medical Center, Sheffield Lake, Put-In-Bay and Kelley's Island Police Departments and the North East Release Corrections Institute in Cleveland, which all gave him a chance to enjoy contact with a lot of people and to make many friends. A devoted father, he cherished every opportunity to be with his two daughters both helping to coach their basketball or volleyball games and attending their soccer events. He tried very hard to never miss a team game. Chad was a Jimmy Buffet fan and would often say goodbye saying, “Meet me at 5 o'clock someplace in paradise---I'll be waiting for you.” He left his family and friends peacefully but all too soon. Family and friends will miss him dearly for the rest of their lives. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents William and Joan Donnar, paternal grandparents Manuel and Jessie Cantu and great grandmother Lucille Plato. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3:00 pm until the time of funeral services at 7:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, will officiate. Memorial contributions can be made in Chad's memory to the family to establish a college education fund for his daughters.
