Charles P. "Charlie" Brezina(1920-2013)

LORAIN - Charles P. "Charlie" Brezina, age 93, of Lorain, passed away Saturday November 30th, 2013 while a resident of the Wesleyan Village. He was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on August 17, 1920 and had been a longtime resident of Lorain.
Charlie was a WW II U.S. Army veteran fulfilling duty assignments as a Corporal attached to the 4600th Service Headquarters Company. He was the recipient of the American Theater Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct medal.
He was employed as a shipper clerk at U.S. Steel Corporation's Lorain-Cuyahoga Work for forty years; he retired in 1977. While working, he was a member of United Steelworkers Local 1104.
Mr. Brezina was currently a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. He was a life member of the American Slovak Club, as well as a member of St. John Lodge Branch 228 and Slovak Catholic Sokols Wreath # 177.
An avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Charlie enjoyed league bowling, dancing, and listening to polka music in his free time. Additional interests included watching his grandchildren's sporting events and visiting casinos.
He is survived by his daughter Marianne (Larry) Schroeder of North Ridgeville, by sons Michael (Kelly) of Westlake, Edward (Dianna) of Lorain, and eight grandchildren. He also leaves his sister Julie Jacovetti of Lorain, and sisters-in-law Agnes Brazina and Bernice Brazina.
He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline (nee Hadar) Brezina in 1989, by his parents Andrew and Annie (nee Guidish) by brothers Mike, Andy, and Steve, and by sisters Anne and Betty.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will begin with closing prayers offered in the funeral chapel at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Reverend Lawrence N. Martello, pastor of the parish will officiate. The Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors immediately following the services at church. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
