VERMILION - David L. Odom, 72, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2013 at the New Life Hospice in Lorain, Ohio following a valiant struggle against cancer. He was born in Lorain, Ohio on June 5, 1941 and grew up in Vermilion with his brothers and sisters.
David attended Firelands High School and excelled in sports (football, basketball, and baseball) and academics. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University and then a doctorate of law from Ohio State University
. David practiced law in Ohio before moving out west in the mid-1970s, where he was an attorney in both the San Francisco Bay area and in Denver, Colorado. David returned to Vermilion in 1992 and for the last 10 years he worked as a supervisor in security at Bendix Corporation in Elyria, Ohio.
David was a lover of nature and some of his happiest times were spent fishing and camping with family and friends in his beloved Rocky Mountains. He was an avid reader, a life-long learner, a sports fan, and a lover of his family, friends, and pets.
David is survived by his wife June (nee Robinson), his son Jess (Ajja) of Bluelake California, his brother Jim (Mary) of Birmingham and his sisters Wanda Chochol of Defiance, Barbara Phillips of Toledo, and sister-in-law Rosemary of Vermilion, as well as some really good friends and colleagues.
David was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Theresa (nee Rybarczyk) and also by his brother John.
Memorial service will be held at New Life Hospice 3500 Kolbe Rd. Lorain, Ohio, Saturday December 21, 2013 between 12:30 and 4:00 PM. Service will be held at 1:00 PM
