Dennis Charles McDaniels
AMHERST - Dennis Charles McDaniels, 72 of Amherst died Sunday, February 26, 2012, at home.
He was born January 21, 1940 in Lorain Ohio, was raised in Lorain and lived in Amherst for the last 48 years.
He graduated from Lorain High School in 1958 where he played Varsity Football, earned a football scholarship at Valparaiso University and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. After College he joined the Army
and was stationed in Germany as a part of the 3rd Army Engineers. He was active in the Amherst Jaycees, the 1970 Soap Box Derby Chairman, P.A.C.E and many other local organizations. He was very active with his grandsons and a supporter of the Civilian Marksmanship Program, the Boy Scouts of America and the NRA. He enjoyed coaching and watching his grandsons as they competed in many different marksmanship competitions. He also enjoyed building furniture, general woodworking and the Lake. At age 16 he built his first Comet Class racing boat and competed for many years. He continued to enjoy boating well into his 50's.
Survivors include his son Dennis McDaniels Jr. of Grand Prairie, TX; Daughter in Law, Robin and two grandsons, Eric and Christopher. He also has a step brother Bob Gray from Vermilion, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife Susan & Daughter Mara Lyn.
