LARGO, FLA. - Ethel M. Ford 84, formerly of Lorain, went home to be with Her Lord and Savior Thursday March 27, 2014 in Largo, FL.
She was born in Lorain November 9, 1929. After graduating from St. Mary's she went to Miami, Florida to work in the food industry, doing the same work in upstate New York during the summer months. After doing that for several years she returned to Lorain and worked in the office for US Steel. She later worked at her parent's restaurant in South Lorain, called The Three Sisters. This is where she met her loving husband, Frank Ford. They married in 1952. She worked with the Lakatos Family Catering business along with employment at the Lakewood and Westwood Country Clubs.
Ethel enjoyed being with her family, entertaining, loved beaches, boating crocheting, and enjoyed going to garage sales with her sisters. You could always find her gardening and listing to music. Ethel, with friends and family traveled to her parent's homeland of Budapest, Hungary. Ethel and Frank enjoyed spending the winter in Florida and the summers in Ohio. She spent the last fifteen years as a resident of Florida. Ethel was a loving and generous person, always willing to help someone in need. She would share food, clothes and plants with family, friends and strangers.
Survivors include her daughter; Kitti (Greg) Lavonn of Lorain, sons; Tom (Dottie) Ford of MI, Bill Ford of Hudson, FL, Larry (Lynn) Ford of Largo, FL. Lynn Ford was not only her loving daughter-in –law, she was also her devoted caretaker. In addition, Ethel is survived by sisters; Betty Ilcisko of Lorain, Muncie (Norm) Hura of Huron, OH, brother; Tony Lakatos of Amherst, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Ford, and parents; Joseph and Elizabeth Lakatos.
A Memorial Service will be held at St Mary's Church 310 Eight Street, Lorain Friday June 20th, 2014 at11:00 am
