Elder Hayes M. Chaffins
LAGRANGE - Elder Hayes M. Chaffins, age 80 of LaGrange passed away Sunday October 7, 2012 in University Hospital in Cleveland after a short illness.
He was born July 4, 1932 in Floyd County, Kentucky and had lived in LaGrange since 1962.
He was a long time member of the Pleasant View Old Regular Baptist Church in Litchfield. He joined church on August 3, 1968 and had served as an ordained minister since October 4, 1980.
Hayes joined the US Army June 11, 1952, trained at Ft. Eustis, Va and was deployed to Korea until June 9, 1954 after which he received an Honorable Discharge. He was a self-employed auto body man and car salesman and continued working until just a few weeks before he passed away. His joys of life included reading the Bible, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Pauline ( nee Nickles ); daughter Marsha Zingas of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan; son Kevin Chaffins of Oak Harbor, Washington; sister Verna Fraley of Tuscon, Arizona; grandchildren Nicolas Hayes Zingas, Callista Christina Zingas, Elana Paulina Zingas, Emilea Xenia Grace Zingas, Hanna Kathleen Leahy-Chaffins, Sidney William Leahy, Kenzington Grace Chaffins, Ryder Preston Chaffins and 21 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Nelson and Grace Ellen ( nee Tuttle ) Chaffins; brothers Mitchell, Orville, and Enon; and sisters Norsie, Laura and Edna.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home 1021 Main St. Grafton on Wednesday from 5-8 pm and on Thursday from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday in the Pleasant View Old Regular Baptist Church 3589 Beat Rd. Litchfield, Ohio with Elders Dennis Elkins and Larry Newsome officiating. Burial will be in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Twp.
