Irene Ada (Hanes) Erbs, 94, of West Palm Beach, Florida died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Florida. Irene was born August 24, 1916 in Brighton. She grew up in a family of 14 children with parents Emma and Albert Hanes. Irene lived in Fairview Park, Ohio before moving to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1974.
She graduated from Camden High School and attended The Ohio State University
for one year. Irene was Vice President of the family business, Erbs Electric Inc. She worked at Higbee's in Cleveland and Jordan Marsh in West Palm Beach as a cosmetic consultant. Irene served as Treasurer of the Homeowners Association of Tiffany Lake Condominium Association in Florida.
Irene loved to travel and has been to Africa, Australia, China, Europe and the Bahamas. She enjoyed sharing the photos of each of her adventures. Irene was an enthusiastic beachcomber, avid gardener and crafter who shared her beautifully hand painted Easter eggs with many family members. She also built and furnished an elaborate doll house and nativity scene. In her spare time she enjoyed reading books, especially ones about Florida fiction.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Merle and Mary Erbs of Brunswick; grandchildren, Randolph (Eileen) Helm, Matthew (Marcella) Helm, Kathryn (Valerie) Helm, Jennifer Snyder, Johannes (Deborah) Erbs and Charles (Jo-Ann) Erbs; great-grandchildren, Matthew Ryan, William, Donovan, Kevin, Charles, Jack, Joseph and Ava and great-great-grandchild, Jayden. Irene is also survived by her siblings, Joan Hawley and Rita Lower and an aunt and great-aunt to many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johannes in 1991; daughter, Amoret in 1979; infant daughters, Roberta and Gayle, grandson, Benjamin in 1969 and 11 siblings.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, June 2nd at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main Street, New London from 10 a.m. until the funeral service begins at noon with Pastor Georgette Gaston officiating.
