LORAIN - Janice Odenweller, 88, passed away February 28, 2013, at the Mercy New Life Hospice Center in Lorain, Ohio.
Mrs. Odenweller was born Janice Zemer on January 20, 1925 at the Toledo Hospital. She was the daughter of Hudson L. and Bernice (Freese) Zemer of Fostoria, Ohio.
Janice was a 1942 graduate of Fostoria High School.
She attended the Ohio State University
for 2 years. Jan truly enjoyed being a part of the Ohio State Card Section for football games. Jan graduated from Bowling Green University with a Bachelors of Science degree in dietetics.
After graduating, she practiced her profession of dietetics in Toledo, Ohio.
She then married Louis B. Odenweller of Delphos, Ohio. They had a lovely wedding in Fostoria, Ohio on August 24, 1949.
Jan and Lou moved to Lorain, Ohio where Lou could continue his career in Public Health.
Janice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher.
She was a fantastic cook and homemaker. Jan especially enjoyed serving many special meals and parties on the screened porch.
She was also known for caring for others. Jan had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh.
Janice was a faithful member of the former Northminster Presbyterian Church. Then a member of what became the Heritage Presbyterian Church of Amherst, Ohio.
Jan and Lou were active in the church in many capacities over the years.
Jan was a member of the church choir, a Sunday School Teacher, she was also known to make many meals for people in the church.
In the early years, Jan was a Girl Scout Leader, helped with Boy Scouts, active in the PTA, YWCA, and Lorain High Band Parents, etc. She was also active in the Colony Club. Jan and Lou had been active members in the Cosmopolitan Club.
Janice had a great love for children and education.
She was a substitute teacher for the elementary grades for the Lorain City Schools for many years before retiring at age 71.
Jan had a passion for music, especially singing. She sang in church choirs over the years.
She also enjoyed the arts, crafts, entertaining, reading, jug-saw puzzles, bridge, traveling, picnics in the woods and fun family days at the beach. Both Jan and Lou enjoyed Ohio State football.
Jan found a very special joy spending time with her granddaughter Lindsay. She attended many activities and helped with parties and events. She and Lindsay shared a special event every August. They would enter award winning cookies at the Canfield Fair.
Janice leaves behind to cherish her memory, a loving son Louis C. Odenweller, of Lorain, Ohio, her daughter Lynn (John) Kuhn of Canfield, Ohio and a loving granddaughter Lindsay M. Kuhn of Washington, D.C. A devoted brother, Dr. James C. Zemer and his wife Rachel of Phoenix, Arizona, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis B. Odenweller, her brother Jack Zemer and his wife Pat, also a nephew Dick Christie.
A celebration of Life will be announced in the future.
